You’ll now see the staff set the starting order to get Gus lined up to start game 1 of the playoffs…. I think they’ll do a goalie rotation in the playoffs UNLESS either goalie gets a shutout or looks completely locked in….then they’ll ride that goalie until either stops…

I guess the silver lining in the Shaw injury is that it sounds like Nyquist is basically ready to play. Just needs to work up his cardio from what I’ve read.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22823April 2, 2023 at 2:10 pm #2192846So bummed to see shaw get hurt. Hope it’s not an acl again but certainly looked like it. If it was this has to be end of his career.
April 3, 2023 at 7:39 am #2192914Kirill supposed to skate before the game tonight and be evaluated. I’m getting worried he’s going to be no where near 100% for the postseason.

You sure about that? I thought that last year too with Talbot and it did not materialize.
April 3, 2023 at 7:47 am #2192916Yeah I think BG will go with the experience. I can’t say I blame him this season. Just hope that if Flower struggles BG doesn’t wait too long to give Gus a shot.

Like tossing him into the fire in a game 6 elimination game on the road?

I think the Avs game perfromance cemented him as the Playoffs game 1 starter…that game was Playoff level pressure and he handled it no problem…

Yeah that’d be the one…..

Most likely not but not sure many players are 100 percent.
April 3, 2023 at 9:13 am #2192944Yeah but they aren’t as hurt as KK seems like he might be. If it’s an ankle or groin or hamstring, he’s not going to be the same. Hopefully that’s not the case.
April 3, 2023 at 9:14 am #2192945This is a good sign…
hardest part is going to keeping him from pushing himself too hard too early..

RipjiggenPosts: 11601April 3, 2023 at 9:26 am #2192948at this point, just give him extra recovery time… he wouldn’t be back this week anyways when everything playoff seeding wise will likely be determined…
RipjiggenPosts: 11601April 3, 2023 at 9:41 am #2192953Don’t think they are rushing him back.
yeah, I changed my wording, just meant give him extra recovery time…
April 3, 2023 at 11:10 am #2192979ZERO chance this was his first skate though, no way they would parade him out there with KFAN doing a live on air Vox in the Box for his first skate and risk an immediate setback announced to the world…he had likely been skating in private at Tria or some other private rink a few times already… I could sit and just watch that kid skate for hours…
April 3, 2023 at 11:45 am #2192993Shaw ACL confirmed. What a bummer. Kid finally made it and was good and boom. Taken away again. Sucks.

I guess maybe it’s better that it was on the leg that previously only had 1 blown ACL? ovey….
This kid is Terry Allen x 2!
RipjiggenPosts: 11601April 3, 2023 at 11:50 am #2192995Yeah unfortunately for Shaw that could end his career at least with the Wild but also his hockey career. See if BG does him a solid and still signs him.
Feel bad for him.April 3, 2023 at 12:05 pm #2192997Yeah unfortunately for Shaw that could end his career at least with the Wild but most likely his hockey career.
Feel bad for him.I wonder how a next contract would work? I beleive passing a physical is required for insurance purposes? Russo mentioned Kurtis Foster was re-signed after he broke his leg as a good faith move by Doug R so maybe not??
Even if he wasn’t injured, the writing was on the wall that Shaw’s longterm Wild future was getting cloudy with him being a RFA this summer with our limited capspace and all of the prospects in the system…he fit his role well though…
April 3, 2023 at 1:07 pm #2193008I hope Gus gets the start in the playoffs. He has played so well all season I think you’d be crazy not to start him. Minimum first two games.
tswobodaPosts: 8521April 3, 2023 at 1:34 pm #2193016Shawzy
That was tough to watchWhy would they not re-sign him? He’s proven a good 4th liner high energy PK guy and they know what he brings. Coaches, teammates, management all love him. He’s RFA and will get league minimum, maybe even a 2-way contract now. Next season is 6 months away and he can start the season on LTIR and maybe he’s ready by Christmas/All-Star Break. Maybe they waive him and let him play a season in Iowa worst case ontario another team claims him off waivers. Just don’t see why they’d let a proven depth player walk when the only risk is the owner’s bank account.
April 3, 2023 at 2:13 pm #2193032Just alot of what’s ifs and unknowns is all…my question was could he even be signed to a contract without passing the physical? If he can, then yes, LTIR is where he would go…I wonder what the most ACL/MCL reconstructions for an active athlete is? He’s gotta be close to the most…
It’s amazing what sports medicine has done to that injury since the days of Terry Allen….it used to be a death sentence for an athlete, now its just a 4-6 month rehab and back to normal…
RipjiggenPosts: 11601April 3, 2023 at 2:43 pm #2193048Russo alluded to he could be ready to start the season. Or early part next year. Dunno
I guess if you can recover from 3. 4 shouldn’t be a problem.tswobodaPosts: 8521April 3, 2023 at 2:45 pm #2193049He’s not the first player to be injured as a pending free agent, of course he can sign a contract.
Boldy started last season on the “injured non-roster” list whatever that is and his cap didn’t count at all. He still did his rehab in Minnesota.
Kunin and Koivu both did theirs late in the season and still made opening night the next season. No idea how this being his 2nd on the same knee affects anything but he’s obviously been through it before.
Last time around Shaw had surgery in May and first game back was mid January.

I’ll disagree on the pre injury future thing. I think the handwriting was on the wall to resign him.
The Wild need these RFA guys to stay under the cap. My guess is BG would sign him to a prove it deal.April 3, 2023 at 5:09 pm #2193069I’ll disagree on the pre injury future thing. I think the handwriting was on the wall to resign him.

[/quote]I questioned his longterm future, I agree a cheap 2 year bridge deal was likely and probably still is… after that we’ll likely have better/cheaper options with our prospects…
