Seems like some good moves to me. Getting rid of Greenway was enough of a win in my book. Big Rig turned into the Big Pile.

I was really worried BG would put a dent in our prospects at this deadline and really not get anything back to move the needle. I feel like this team is more than a couple deadline deals away from legitimately contending. He got a few pieces to see if they can help this team offensively and really didn’t give up a whole lot. I still don’t think it’s going to move the needle enough, but our prospects didn’t hardly get touched.
Yeah it was a low risk deadline. He didn’t give up much and there is definitely some offensive upside especially if Nyquist can come back. This team could really contend if things pan out. Will be fun to see how it works out.
March 3, 2023 at 7:21 pm #2186069if you think about the guys who were available and could really move the needle in terms of improving the team and they either had control on where they went or the price to get them and then have ZERO chance to re-sign them was just too much for a team not yet in its prime…
We slightly improved in areas we needed to with the highest cost to do so being a 4th round draft pick, we trimmed some dead weight both off the lineup and the next 2 years of an insanely tight team salary cap and added a 2nd round draft pick in a generational draft (giving us 3 picks in the first 64)
I’d say it was a good (not great) deadline day….

It was a puzzler why he was given the extension he was at $3M there was no need for it. BG was lucky to be able to dump him at the last minute. He’s been dangled out there almost as long as Dumba has been it seems. I don’t see much movement of the 5v5 goal scoring needle with the rest of the group. If Nyquist comes back in time for the playoffs he’s going to be Rusteee and then trying to acclimate to new line mates I’m not expecting much there. Maybe next year if he’s still around. Johanssen? Been there done that. Sundvquist? Seems like ten years since I’ve even heard his name mentioned.
I give it a meh overall. I think BG’s goal here is to get past the first round which he very well may given the dumpster fire that is the Western Conference. Satisfy the owner and keep the faithful at the season ticket door another year. That would be mission accomplished. Hell KK alone might be able to drag him over that line with the tear he is on.
March 3, 2023 at 9:28 pm #2186088Wow, spent my day focused on work and missed three pages of posts!
x2, count me among the group that really enjoyed reading IDO coverage of the NHL trade deadline!
March 4, 2023 at 9:47 am #2186129Here’s my thought on Johansson after digesting it for a couple days. Is he great at this point in his career? No. Is he better than most of our current forwards in terms of production and especially offensive talent? Definitely. Maybe putting him with Boldy will get him going…..well, if Boldy ever starts hitting the net…..

we’ve only seen 1 game together, but they did generate chances and moved the puck quite a bit. Boldy was actually the worst player on the line, he had way too many missed chances and turnovers… he’s obviously hitting the typical rookie road bumps once they get into the 50-60+ game count (remember he only played 1/2 the season last year and his previous Boston College seasons were only about 40 games max, so its both a physical and mental marathon most Rookies/Young players struggle with in the NHL)
He just needs to push through it…
Ek has also been in a goal rut…
March 4, 2023 at 10:15 am #2186135Boldy has not played well for awhile now. But he’s young and the talent is there so I’m still good with his signing. That’s really the only way to build a good team is to recognize and sign your young talent BEFORE they hit a massive payday. Just have to hope it works out.

I accept that and will make amends by watching the game tonight.
RipjiggenPosts: 11836March 4, 2023 at 4:55 pm #2186191Better question who is out because they said Sundquist was going to be in yesterday.
March 4, 2023 at 4:56 pm #2186192Will look forward to seeing Klingberg. I don’t know if he’s good anymore but remember when he was with Dallas he buried us a few times.
RipjiggenPosts: 11836March 4, 2023 at 5:02 pm #2186194Looks like Sunquist is out and Steel is in. Weird. No Duhaime which I kind of thought they would give him a game out when he crumpled in the fight.

He is playing on the third pair which is a big drop from where he was. He can still skate and move the puck real well however.
March 4, 2023 at 5:05 pm #2186197Gus in nets.
Would really like to see something from the 2nd line tonight. As in score.

Good to hear.
March 4, 2023 at 5:33 pm #2186199My buddy played juniors and never got the callup but he has a bunch of big name friends and is a hockey fanatic. Dialed in more than I ever will be.
He is SUPER stoked we have KLingberg and thinks he will be a huge asset.
I am hopefulCaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 4, 2023 at 8:52 pm #2186225How early will Lucic and Reaves drop them tonight? Lucic feeling good after dropping McDermid the other night and will want to set the tone for this crucial back 2 back series…
Two top heavyweights in the league… could be fireworks!
AK GuyPosts: 1428March 4, 2023 at 8:55 pm #2186227If Klingberg plays anything like he did when he was with Dallas, we got a heck of a pick up.

yeah, really get the vibe from him that the Ducks season really wore on him and he’s looking to rejuvenate with the Wild, could catch lightning in a bottle, he should be extremely motivated to prove to the league that the terrible 3/4 season he had with the Ducks was just a product of the bad team and he’ll deserve the big bucks next year…
March 4, 2023 at 9:37 pm #2186236This is a game where you’re glad you have Reaves… I think we’re gonna see some sparks fly soon..
March 4, 2023 at 9:40 pm #2186237Sofar there are ZERO restraints being put on Klingberg’s game….dude is rushing up in the play constantly…

X2
basseyesPosts: 2569March 4, 2023 at 9:47 pm #2186244Was just gonna say (again) Johansson looks good and his speed stands out. Then lo and behold a puck goes in the net! Klingberg in on the play too, very nice.
