I know most here think BG is the second coming but when he says things like this I wonder what color the sky is in his world.
“These two players Johansson and Nyquist are what we were missing, what we needed,” Guerin told the media Tuesday. “They’re both highly skilled guys, they’re excellent skaters, and I think they’re going to provide us with some of that natural ability out there. Both players have a history of playing with elite guys, and they have the ability to do that.”

Johansson has been and failed here before, Nyquist hasn’t played in months. If he even came back in time to play Calgary tonight how long will it take to knock the rust off and get acclimated to a new team? Meanwhile I gotta wonder what Marco Rossi thinks stuck in Iowa watching and listening to all this.

lol, what do you expect him to say? Seriously… EVERY GM is going to speak positive of their moves…

Mojo broke his arm TWICE in the 1 covid shortened season he was here, I agree there wasnt much success with him, but cut the guy a little break…

Nyquist we basically bought for $74 (pick we got for brokering the Boston trade). If he comes back and plays (which he most likely will) he could be a sneaky good utility pickup for literally nothing… if he doesn’t play, Leopold wasted $74k of his own cash…

Rossi has like 6 points in his last 10 AHL games, so he’s probably thinking about how he can get better as a Center, not about Wingers the team signed…

I was quietly hoping the Wild would get him. Like his play style. And hes not a dirtbag like his uncle.

Bruins signed Pasta for 8 x $11.25…The next contracts for Mathews, McDavid, Kaprizov are going to be absolute bonkers…

x2 Hes the type of player we could really use. I do like the idea of Nyquist if he can get healthy.

The East is getting to be a real load right now with all these moves. Man its going to be a wild ride watching those matchups.

Yeah it’s crazy the most significant move for the west was a d man on a non playoff dumpster fire of a team and Edmonton swapping D men.

BG is in a tough spot and you can’t blame him for happy-talking. The reality is he’s the GM of a team that was already in a tough position due to the buyouts and is getting worse instead of better. Rossi turned out not to be oven-ready and did not make a splash this year. Last year’s surprises have come back down to earth. The scoring depth is just not there.

The coach is already “his guy” so coach swapping is not an option to create a smokescreen. Of course, there’s hope for the youth movement, but then there’s the fact that some of them are tied up in the vagaries of the KHL. There just isn’t a lot of good news for BG.

You still think they don’t make the playoffs and Nashville is going to make a push Grouse?

Don’t forget stanley cup champion Jack Johnson to the Avalanche

East and West are like 2 completely different leagues right now

Yeah its crazy. Whoever makes it from the West might have an easy way to the Cup because the East is just going to absolutely blow each other apart.

I agree with most of this, I think the positives for GMBG are that Kaprizov has turned out a million times better than anyone could have imagined and the risk GMBG took giving a kid with 50 NHL games experiance $9 million a year for 5 years is an absolute STEAL now…I think the majority of moves he’s made sofar have been good, finding a 1st pair D in Middleton and extending him for $2 was a great move and he has fit in perfectly, his goalie moves have all worked out, the Boldy extension is still TBD, we’ve seen what he can do with a talented linemate, but we’ve also seen without one. The only bad moves I see was giving up a 3rd rounder for 2 months of Delourias and extending Goligoski 2 more years (which I beleive he was just keeping his word after signing him to the original 1 year deal)

Lol its not as ridiculous as having an 8:30-9pm start during the playoffs in the central time zone.

Lots of games left. They are certainly helping their case by taking everything to OT. I certainly hope they don’t drag it in for another one and done.

Its crazy with how awesome McDavid’s been lately (well actually all year) that the Oilers are bumbling around around 500 the last few weeks. Their D and goalies are trash. Though I think they improved their D with their latest trade in Ekholm.

You know its going to happen again this spring too. East coast teams first, and the central can’t start until they are over. Minnesota, Winnipeg, St Louis, Nashville, Chicago, Dallas…all get screwed with late start times.

Crazy stat on him. If you take away all his PP goals he is still 11th in the league in goals.
Do that pretty much with any other player and they drop out of the top 50.

And he’s 3rd in the league in PP goals…

We might actually see a 70-150 season

I think it was Scott Wheeler who tweeted the question yesterday if we’ll ever see a better player than McDavid?

with the crazy amount of skills young players are learning nowadays, I think from a stick skillset we likely will, but to have the perfect combo of speed, skill, hands, shot and hockey brain that might not ever be repeated….

bottom line, cherish every game we get to watch him play…

I’ve mentioned it in the past, but not alot of people know about it…his knee injury I think his 4th year in the league was almost career ending. There’s a great documentary about it called “Whatever It Takes

I think this link will work for it – https://localnow.com/movies/connor-mcdavid-whatever-it-takes

They declined several surgeries and tried new treatments and rehabs that were all cutting edge to get him back to the player he is today…its a great watch

I just hope he can stay healthy his entire career. Thankfully I dont think hes had many if any concussions so that is good. Now its just taking care of the rest of his body. I remember that draft with him and Eichel jockeying for #1. I thought Eichel would be better mainly because I saw more of him. Boy was I wrong.

The documentary talks about it and Connor even said it himself, he will always be a major injury risk due to the speed he plays at…

This is the same with MacKinnon…

What were his injuries his rookie season? I thought that was concussions, but maybe not. I do remember him getting absolutely lit up a couple times though.

In 2016 he tripped over Spurgeon’s stick and hit his chin on the ice and was pulled by the concussion spotters, but I dont think he actually had one.
