Gustavsson just gets better and better. He was insane in the 3rd and OT.
February 28, 2023 at 9:45 pm #2185236Starting to feel like I’m watching Vikings games with these guys…..
rumriverrunnerPosts: 156February 28, 2023 at 9:48 pm #2185237Could you imagine Gustavsson and Wallstedt tandem. To bad we’re tied up with what’s his name.

Flower only has a year left… Wallstedt will marinate in the AHL for another year…GMBG’s plan is aligning perfectly…
RipjiggenPosts: 11836March 1, 2023 at 7:42 am #2185257I can just see it now. Gus continues to go on a tear until the season ends, and they stick Fluery in there because he’s the “veteran with a stanley cup.” Sound familiar?

I dont think they will make that mistake again. Although last year was different since both goalies were playing great at the end and they decided to just ride Fleury. It wasnt Fleury’s fault they lost either they got too dang many penalties and couldnt score on the PP.

I don’t agree with that, but I do hope that they don’t make the same mistake again if it comes down to it.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 1, 2023 at 8:26 am #2185271I dont think they will. I have seen some recent comments by BG that led me to believe he would have done things differently last year.
tswobodaPosts: 8723March 1, 2023 at 8:39 am #2185272Talbot stacked up wins down the stretch because he played average and they scored 5 goals a game. Fleury played a little less average and also stacked up wins. Both of them were very average aside from the Wins category, but I’m sure that had nothing to do with the team scoring 5 goals a game right.
This year Gus is stealing 2-1 OT/SO wins and Flower is losing 3-2.
tswobodaPosts: 8723March 1, 2023 at 8:41 am #2185273Pour one out for Tyson Barrie today. Guy spent his entire career running a PP with Mackinnon, Rantanen, Matthews, Marner, McDavid, and Draisaitl. Now he has Duchene and Granlund lol.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 1, 2023 at 8:47 am #2185274Gus has like the highest goals saved against expected in the league. Whatever they call that. Basically goals saved that were expected to go in in other words.
tswobodaPosts: 8723March 1, 2023 at 9:05 am #2185281Gus has like the highest goals saved against expected in the league.
He’s #7 overall and #3 on a per game basis. He’s in some **very** good company.
Expected goals is just a more in depth version of shots on goal. Instead of a dump in on net and a back door tap in being seen as equal (shots on goal) it assigns an ‘expected goal’ number to each shot on net and then totals them up. So that dump in on net is probably 0.01 expected goals and the backdoor tap in is like 0.30 expected goals. It’s not perfect, but a big step forward from simple shots on goal totals.
Gus has 56 actual goals against (GA) and 74.27 expected goals against (xGA). So he has 18.27 goals saved above expected (GSAx) which in 28 games is 0.673 GSAx/60 minutes.

CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 1, 2023 at 9:29 am #2185293Yeah he has sure been a welcomed surprise! Now we just need to get Fleury to be steady or completely falter and retire. I dont want the latter to let Wallstedt marinate another year in Iowa, but we could also find a veteran backup.
tswobodaPosts: 8723March 1, 2023 at 9:35 am #2185297Wallstedt’s had a tough month in Iowa, the team is really tanking as a whole.
I’m loving what Gus is doing this year, but still completely unsold on his future. Just see it all the time where a goalie comes out of nowhere for one season and then right back into obscurity the next.
RipjiggenPosts: 11836March 1, 2023 at 9:49 am #2185305Flower is not retiring he is like 14 wins or something like that away from passing Roy for second all time.
He will need next year to get there.
Gus will sign a 2-3 year extension at probably under 3.Wallstedt will be #3.
In all honesty I think this is one area that with some luck will play out very well for the Wild.

ie Dubnyk
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 1, 2023 at 10:02 am #2185314Speaking of goalies, the Kings did Jonathan Quick dirty…
Yeah that was kind of surprising.
tswobodaPosts: 8723March 1, 2023 at 10:20 am #2185322I see him getting flipped again before the deadline…no way Columbus wants him….
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 1, 2023 at 10:36 am #2185326Wild one point out of first but the Avs are on fire and have 3 games in hand. They will likely win the Division but the Stars and Jets are faltering so we are finally seeing who they really are.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 1, 2023 at 10:37 am #2185327Are we getting to the point where Kaprizov is in the consideration for the Hart Trophy? He is accountable for what 45% of their goals lately. That is unreal. No idea where other favorites rank, but I cannot imagine McDavid is because they also have Draisatl who gets a ton of goals.
tswobodaPosts: 8723March 1, 2023 at 10:42 am #2185328McDavid should win the Hart every season he is healthy for at least the next 5 years. Matthews deserved it last year and then McDavid was like oh you want goals huh
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377March 1, 2023 at 10:44 am #2185329Well I would agree he is the best player in the world, but the award is most valuable to your team. Its hard to say hes more deserving that Kaprizov when Kaprizov literally does it all by himself. He has no Robin like Draisatl.
tswobodaPosts: 8723March 1, 2023 at 10:50 am #2185334I hear ya, and you’re not wrong. But also

And he’s going to win it unanimous this year. Again.
