I wish the NHL would adapt the point system that the Olympics uses. 3 points for the regulation win, 2 for the OT win and 1 for the OT loss. Too many close games just go to OT because there is no incentive to close it out in regulation.
I’ve been pounding this take for years. The NHL won’t do it thought because the current system makes it much closer.
hmmm, Addy benched again tonight…I just don’t see any way they could tie the recent wins to somehow having Goligoski in the lineup? He’s made costly mistakes EVERY game he’s played in and has 1 secondary PP assist to show for it…
This is the thing that bothers me the most about Evason, he talks out of both sides of his mouth…he’ll criticize Addison for bad pintches or soft defense, but a Vet does it and there’s no mention of it or repercusions…
Yeah I dont get it either Joe. What is this teaching Addison? Some things you just have to work through. I doubt he is making any strides if they arent practicing either. The comment that Spurgeon made that Addison hasnt talked to him or asked him advice is kinda telling though. I would think someone in his shoes would take a vet up on any advice he could provide especially the captain.
Maybe he is not showing the coach’s he deserves to be back in the lineup.
Addison probably stays in the press box as long as the team is scoring a PP goal every game and winning. Media comments from coach and player both add a little fuel to the fire and might keep him out even longer. Just a reminder that the kid is 22 and a smallish D in the NHL. There’s going to be mistakes and growing pains, need to let him develop.
Joe you watch Goose so intently for every mistake maybe start watching Addison like that and you’ll see his lack of effort and intensity in the D-zone. Of course they’re going to handle a 22 year old differently and have different expectations that a 38 year old vet. I would sure hope so anyway. Maybe for the coaching staff it’s about more than who is better player right now and maybe they’re trying to teach an extremely talented 22 year old an important lesson for his development. It’s teaching him he needs to defend harder in the NHL. And if he thinks he’s defending as hard as he can then he needs to find another level if he wants to stay out of the pressbox.
Good test of the D and goalie tonight. LA is scoring like 6 goals a game since the break and Wild are giving up less than 2. Classic battle of elite O vs elite D. Kevin loves revenge games so hope they can keep him bottled up tight.

Oh I agree he can be a trainwreck on defense, no argument there, BUT so is Goligoski (in the 4 games he’s played in replacing Addy, he’s made every single one of the mistakes Deano called Addy out for as the reason he’s sitting) Why have Goligoski on the PP1 group? He doesn’t shoot, so what does he bring to that group? In 4 games, he’s had 1 good keep in that ultimately led to a goal, that’s it…his slow motion PP breakouts have been a brutal, espcially the 2-3 times he tried to skate the puck into the offensive zone himself last game resulting in easy turnovers, the PP1 forwards just skated off the ice in disgust…
I get that we currently don’t have any better replacement options to play, but the narrative is that Goose is in because he doesn’t make the defensive mistakes Addy does, but he absolutely does..
So with their defense being equally terrible, why not go with the more offensive player when your team can’t score goals?
and yes it’s possible Addy is being a little biotch about the sitting so there’s some dicipline reasoning going int o his prolonged benching, no idea…
I dont think anyone is saying that Goose isnt making some of the same mistakes as Addison, but if Addison isnt taking the advice of the coaches and working on things he needs to sit over Goose. He is a young player and you cannot have him not working on things he needs to work on because that just breeds bad things down the road.

All of this benching and defense drama is starting to look a little staged to me. It’s almost like Deano & Co want everyone talking about the D so that we DON’T talk about…ya know..his least favorite subject… The freaking lack of putting the damn puck in the net.
The performance of Addison, Dumba, Goose and whoever else wouldn’t even be a topic of discussion if the Wild were scoring at anything like an good pace.

There PP has not slowed down scoring wise without Addy. He isn’t exactly sniping goals on the PP.
