Trying to get those PK stats up.
I thought Merrill had been having a nice season for a third D pair guy, but the last month he has just been brutal.
Gotta get Boldy hitting the net when he gets those chances. Last one deflected I see though.
I’m feeling some more Freddie hockey magic about to happen…..
Looks like Reavo had about as much impact as the game on Saturday. Ice time was about the same as well.
Sorry couldn’t resist.
Frustrating game. With Gustafsson keeping us in the game so long, seems like one we should have stole. Boldy has been cold lately, missed the net too many times. Not that anyone else, except for Kirill, could generate much offense either.

by not playing, so did Sam Steel…
Well at least “Sami” Walker can come up now.
Sorry Joe, your misspelling of this poor kid’s name all season has been killing me.
Gus stole another point, and the goals are going to start coming – by the end of this homestand for sure.
Too bad they couldn’t end it in OT. Panthers are terrible there and it showed, Bob made a couple huge saves to get it to the shootout.
Lol, noted! No idea why I was spelling it that way…
Oh we know Joe. You just cant get her out of your mind.
Not a bagskate… but if you ever did “Youngbloods” before, you know they are not fun and would for sure spike your heart rate monitor…

Does anyone remember hockey back in the good old days when the Wild did stuff like score multiple goals? It seems like only last year. Multiple goals in a single game, I mean. Not multiple goals in a week. Although that seems like at least a realistic if somewhat aspirational goal right now.
Joking aside, they didn’t look terrible last night. I would like to see if Boldy can settle into that top line long enough to get comfortable. It feels like that combo could have potential if they have some time.

it’s obvious our skilled guys are trying to overcompensate for our lack of offensive production from anybody else and squeezing the stick extra tight…I lost track of how many shots missed the net trying to pick top corners…they need to get back to KISS hockey (Keep It Simple Stupid) until they get some confidence back…at least Deano finally figured out that lines needed to change…its still very worrisome that even with the season likely on the line this homestand, they are still constantly taking penalties and turnovers, luckily our goalies have been stellar lately and keeping them in games…
I never expected to say that goaltending was a strength this year.
Grouse, dont let Deano hear you say they cant score because he says that if you say that they will think they cant score.
Boldy missed the net a ton of times last night and way too dang many penalties again.
and way too dang many penalties again.
it would be nice to see Deano direct some of those effingheimers at his own players vs staring down the refs after every penalty call…

I thought we had a new forum theory that the Wild never miss the net and all those misses are just deliberate attempts to create big caroms off the end wall. Don’t tell me we’ve regressed to just missing the net again.

I think we’re going to see how Deano deals with adversity. Early signs are not good. Getting angry about the hockey media and fans talking about not scoring when the team is, in fact, not scoring isn’t a good sign especially now.
Although regarding the refereeing, I can feel his pain at the utter inconsistency of the NHL’s amateur-hour officiating. The Wild have had 2 peanalty shots called against them for slashes on opposing team breakaways and then last light the Wild get a breakaway and the ref calls a minor for slashing against the Panthers. Huh???? That was a penalty shot all week last week.
The league is just getting dumber under Bettman. Is slashing from behind during a breakaway denying the opportunity to score or isn’t it? As any idiot and even Bettman should be able to understand, it’s either one or the other ALL THE TIME. It’s the same infraction, it should always be treated the same when in the breakaway scenario.
“How are we going to replace Fiala’s 30 goals and 80 points??”
“We’re going to allow 30 less goals”
Whelp… hockey
All the hate on stars over passing when they’re the only ones scoring! Ek and Kirill have 11 goals in the last 11 games. The other 16 players have 12 combined and the only players to score are Zuccy, Boldy, Hartman, Spurge, and Brodin. If we want to point a finger it’s at the bottom 6, scoring literally zero goals in a month. Good thing Reavo is there helping them feel 6″ taller though.

Here’s the rule… Yes it’s last season’s rulebook but it hasn’t changed. There is referee discretion involved, as there is in every penalty except for puck over glass So no it’s not an ALL THE TIME or none of the time infraction. The referee has to determine they had a scoring chance taken away. Dewar still got a really good shot off, so he didn’t get a penalty shot.
I 100% agree with you that the rule is stupid and should be automatic penalty shot regardless of taking away the scoring chance. I’m just trying to help you understand why the refs call it like the do… It’s in the rule book.
Another note… People get way too fired up over penalty shots. I’ll take the powerplay 100x over Connor Dewar or anyone else besides the shootout regulars getting a penalty shot. Shootout average is like 33% and powerplay average is around 25%. So if it’s not one of the 3 best shootout guys on the team then you’re likely better off with the powerplay. Should really change it so the team gets to choose the shooter regardless of why the penalty shot is called.
I see for some reason that Reaves takes a ton of heat, was does Foligno just go under the radar? Watching how slow he is just angers me and I can never figure out why Deano has him out in the 10 minutes of the 3rd in a close game.
Oh, we have been lamenting Foligno a lot on here lately. He has been invisible out there and Greenway is essentially the same way.
The difference is potential. Foligno has a history of depth scoring and Selke level defense. He’s been bad all year and we’ve noted that, but he’s not on the bubble of the lineup like Reaves. I think he’s playing hurt.
Foligno is definitely dinged up. Its probably that same injury just not fully recovered I bet.

I know what the rule is. You’re missing the point. Remove the discretion and remove the inconsistency. A slash is a slash. There aren’t any inadvertent slashes. So slashing in the process of a breakaway either denies the offensive player the opportunity to score or it doesn’t. The general call is that a slash during a breakaway does not deny the opportunity to score as would, say, hooking the offensive player and dragging him down. Here’s an opportunity to make it consistent.
As I’ve pointed out, and the league agrees, consistency was badly needed when it comes to infractions like slashing and cross-checking. Both of which have been the focus of recent cleanup efforts. I’m just pointing my friends in the league to yet another opportunity.
