I caught the very end of the BG interview…I know he couldn’t answer ANY questions regarding players from other teams as that would be tampering, but did he give any thoughts on timing to get his players signed (Like did he want Kap/Ek/Fiala contracts wrapped up before the drafts?)

He did not talk about timing of signing those guys specifically. Im sure the dominos will fall once KK is signed.
Russo asked him about trades and he said they were basically going to have to be $1 for $1 type deals for most teams because of the flat cap and especially the Wild with the guys he has to sign.He was asked about whether or not he has reached out to Francis about cost to potentially dictate who Seattle takes and he said he had talked briefly with him, but not at all about that. He said there is “lots of time” for that.
If you are able to continue to listen, Elliot Friedman will be on at 11 I believe. No one except maybe the Bobfather Mackenzie is more plugged in than him.

This likely means they are targeting a major Center move…I’m against Eichel now…ONLY because of his injury unknowns…
time for me to start back up the Barkov rumors

Russo actually brought up Barkov when chatting with Micheletti. IDK if it makes sense for FLA, but “game breaker GM” (Assistant) is there, so we all know how he feels about Fiala.

I, too, am a fan of Fiala, but you have to give to get and that is probably what its going to take unless the team is looking for a D man.
Russo actually discussed Philly (Fletcher) as a potential trading partner for Dumba, but they are probably also in the Seth Jones sweepstakes.June 22, 2021 at 12:54 pm #2044066<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>JoeMX1825 wrote:</div>

its going to need to be a situation where Barkov tells them he’s not resigning and then they shop him, if it’s the Panthers decision he isn’t going anywhere…
if you want to see something strange, go look at the Florida Panthers contracts on capfriendly, other than Brobrovsky and Ekblad, they have nobody signed for longer than 2 years…From a Finance perspective, it looks like they are setting up to be sold and moved to me…CaptainMuskyPosts: 22284June 22, 2021 at 1:40 pm #2044068Yeah, I was looking that over earlier. The one thing that concerns me about Barkov is he is UFA in a year so there is a huge risk that he wouldnt re-sign.
There is an appetite for hockey there, but the team must perform. I think they have pieces to compete as they showed this year, but having so few long term contracts is very concerning for them I would think.
Relocation? Man, where would they go? Quebec City? I’ve heard rumblings of Houston for a few years, but I just don’t know if there is a big enough audience there. If a team moves there I would think its Arizona.
tswobodaPosts: 8387June 22, 2021 at 1:51 pm #2044070Can’t move the panthers out of Florida unless they change their name to the Cougars.

Only thing I noticed is Guerin really stressed there’s no rush and they have a lot of time to sign RFAs. Generally RFA contracts are the last thing done in the offseason, negotiations usually drag into August and September. Fiala’s last contract didn’t get done until training camp started.
That said, this is a unique situation for the Wild with 3 RFAs due for HUGE raises. If I’m Billy, I’d want to get those contracts done ASAP – at least the KK contract.

Agreed! I think Ek might be the second domino and Fiala may be a trade chip along with Dumba (not same trade).
June 22, 2021 at 2:33 pm #2044079I think the difference in these 3 RFA’s vs other years is obviously the $ amount as you said, but also the wide ranges of term and $ that ALL 3 could get, it’s all over the map, 2 year terms to 8 year terms, $4 million per to potentially over $9 million per… the days of the past $2 million per bridge deals are likely over (its nice to now have the high talent guys that deserve the higher $$)
These 3 RFAs need to get done first imo, that way you know what $ you have left to sign the extra FA gap players you’ll need to fill the roster vs plucking guys from Iowa to fill spots…
I’d bet Ek gets done first just because I think his demands are less and he really only has this shortened season to bargain with, I HOPE he signs for $4-$4.5 million on a 5-6 year term…Then focus on Kaprizov and then figure out if you have enough left for Fiala, if not then you look at him more as a trade chip in a center deal…We need to spend at least $5 million on a competent center with 1-2 years of term left (hopefully Rossi and ? are ready to take over by then…
June 22, 2021 at 4:01 pm #2044097It was really good to hear him say that it was news to him that talks had gone stale/cold and he felt that KK’s agent felt the same way. I think we all knew the Weekes tweet was just blowing smoke but nice to hear BG say as much.
I’d hate to lose Fiala unless we get a stud center for him. He’d definitely be easier to replace than finding a good centerman but it would be tough losing him.
RipjiggenPosts: 11447June 22, 2021 at 4:52 pm #2044104You must have missed the portion after that where Russo said there is a little smoke behind the scenes and that Bill was definitely underplaying that fact. I don’t think his trip to Russia was anything more than going back home to see his family but Russo painted a less rosie and flat out said Bill was a little less upfront about that situation.
Russo and Mich talked about several centers. At this point I don’t see how Eichel can be in there plans as Buffalo wants all futures and they are still going back and fourth about him needing surgery.
Reinhardt was also mentioned and Mich said he would not trade Fiala for Reinhardt.
I don’t think a 1C trade or least an established 1/2C is in the cards this off season but I guess we will have to wait and see.June 22, 2021 at 5:18 pm #2044106Relocation? Man, where would they go? Quebec City?
IMO this would be the logical destination. Of the cities that want NHL hockey, Quebec City has been lobbying the hardest for years now. Also, if it can be justified to move a floundering team to Winnepeg, how can the NHL justify not allowing the Panthers to move to QC? Almost 100k more in population, hockey tradition, willing to build an arena, and the biggie is that virtually all the expansion has been south of the border.
Also the league front office looks like clowns keeping franchises in failing and uninterested markets. It’s an embarrassment to the sport to see game after game with virtually empty first decks and entire empty rows between the blue lines in what should be prime seating.

Ah, I did miss that. That’s unfortunate.
June 22, 2021 at 8:35 pm #2044139Corey Perry is one of my most hated players, but I gotta give him credit, he’s revived his career and he’s been a very effective player with Montreal.

Probably more over analyzing of analysis of analytics..which I know you like but it is a pretty crazy off season for the GM which I think will make or break his career…. in Minnesota at least.
Bottom line KK is here for at least 3 years (not another great option for him) what Bill can do in that time frame which there is a lot of things he can do this particular off season will determine his fate as a GM here an possibly elsewhere.
June 22, 2021 at 10:54 pm #2044155The mean and nastiness of Weber and Edmundson is taking it’s toll on the Vegas forwards… another terrible game by Mark Stone…
The Wild could use some of that nastiness on defense…
June 23, 2021 at 6:30 am #2044156I am trying not to count my chickens before they hatch, but imagine all the storylines a Hand vs Bolts final would write.
June 23, 2021 at 9:31 am #2044199I’ve been reading through a ton of NHL Mock Drafts and here’s who the Wild could be targeting IF they keep both of their 1st round picks:
Logan Stankoven – 5’8″ Wing – Small but solid, Probably the best pure goal scorer in the draft, elite right handed shot, not afraid to get in the dirty areas, reminds me of Brad Marchant.
Francesco Pinelli – 6′ Center – Smooth skating stickhandler and playmaker with a good scoring touch, reminds me of Nugent-Hopkins.
Corson Ceulemans – 6’2″ Defenseman – Good size right handed shot offensive minded defender, great skater, reminds me of Shae Theodore
Zack Buldoc – 6’1″ Center – Do everything center with size, played with Lafreineir last season so hopefully this stats weren’t padded because of it.
Xavier Bourgault – 6′ Center – His game reminds me of Benoit Poulliot, hopefully he has more desire though..
I’m hoping for Pinelli & Stankhoven or Ceulemans picks by the Wild, then focus on Left Wing & Defense with big size in rounds 2 & 3
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22284June 23, 2021 at 11:12 am #2044224I’m liking Raty the big Finnish Center. Some mocks have him going earlier than 21, but he could still be there. Good skater and creative offensively.
Pinelli looks like a solid player for sure.Chayka is a big Russian D man that would like nice in Christmas colors.
June 23, 2021 at 11:22 am #2044229Raty is interesting and I didn’t include him because I think he’ll be gone by 21. He was the projected #1 overall pick over the past few year projections and then COVID happened and he didn’t play very much and when he did play, he didn’t look very good, he was also left off the Finish WJC team so that was telling..
BUT
as you said he has the size and all of the tools so we’ll see if somebody takes a chance on him early on in the 1st round.tswobodaPosts: 8387June 23, 2021 at 11:45 am #2044232Raty is a total wild card. Was a stud through junior leagues, considered the #1 prospect, and then just kind of fell off the map during the 19-20 season… pre-covid shut down. He played significant minutes in the 2020 world juniors and then didn’t even make the team in 2021. I think he’ll be gone by 21 just based on name recognition and exposure alone.
I think they’ll take one of the goalies if they make it to 21. Wallstedt likely goes top 10-15, but Cossa might still be there. They almost traded Boldy last fall to take Askarov. There’s more at play with that one though… Bracket passed on Boldy for Podkolzin with Vancouver and the Fenton’s were big fans of Boldy, so moving Boldy to Florida wouldn’t be a shocker.

Boldy has certainly had a more impressive last couple years that Podkolzin. Boldy started slow, but really ramped it up. You just know Fenton has his little sweethearts and will make every attempt to convince others to get some of his favorites like Fiala as well.
June 23, 2021 at 1:28 pm #2044258Fiala + Boldy + Khovanov + our 21st and a 3rd round pick for Barkov and goalie prospect Devon Levi.
It makes too much sense! Do it GMBG!!!
RipjiggenPosts: 11447June 23, 2021 at 1:35 pm #2044261I don’t follow prospects like some of you do unless the Wild are drafting higher in the draft. I am guessing most guys they are looking at drafting in the bottom third they are just hoping they make it to the NHL. If they are impactful players that would be a big bonus.

in a normal year absolutely, 1st rounders typically have like 60% chance of a decent NHL career.
This year its all up in the air due to covid limiting the players playing and scouts scouting…so picks between 5-64 could be all over the place and where you pick isn’t as important, its all going to come down to how scouts project the talent based on how the prospects looked at 16 & 17 years old…The first 2 rounds are loaded with center and defense prospects and we have 5 of the first 90 picks.
Good thing we picked up our draft guru last year…
