What’s the point of having a salary cap if you just disregard it in the playoffs? The Bolts are like $12 Million OVER the cap for their playoff roster…

I realize they still had to make the playoffs without these players, but when Vegas is only skating 15 players during some regular season games just to stay cap compliant and then it all goes out the door when the playoffs start? Seems silly, am I missing something?

Its about damn time a Wild goalie steals a playoff win vs the other way around! Vegas has to start having the voices in their head that they just cant beat the Wild…

Its funny you say that Talbot stole the game. If you read Jesse Granger’s (Vegas Athletic writer) stuff you’d swear it was the other way around.
Fleury was great but he made his saves look flashy while Talbot was great and he made his saves look routine. Definitely looked back to his sharp form from earlier on.

I have a hard time with this too, but what can be done about it unless the NHL imposes some minimum number of games played in order to qualify for playoffs?

This smells alot like Tampa just did all of this to circumvent their HUGE cap issues before the season started…like you suggested, a minimum regular season games played rule (something as trivial as 1 game played) would have excluded Kucherov from the playoffs because even if healthy (and you know he was already healthy) they couldn’t get under the cap to have him play a single regular season game…

Kinda hard to believe Talbot could flip a switch like that for the playoffs considering his last 4-5 regular season games giving up 3+ goals per… The Wild have got to be in their heads after a game like that, Vegas has to be saying wtf else can they do to get a win against this club!

You guys see that dude take a run at Kaprizov who then gets up and blasts a Vegas player along the boards? LOL This kid is relentless.
I saw pics over the weekend of Rossi training. Just biking and no impact stuff like that. To be honest I was expecting him to have lost a lot of weight not being able to work out, but his legs still look like tree trunks.

Whoever won that game was going to say their goalie stole it, and Cam absolutely did. I can’t remember ever saying that about a Wild goalie in the playoffs.

Both goalies played great. Talbot kept the Wild in the game early on and Fleury had multiple game saving stops down the stretch. Shots were lopsided but I’d argue the Wild had more grade A scoring chances, especially in the 3rd. I thought Granger’s piece was good, offers a different perspective. Fleury made some incredible saves, that wasn’t just showboating for the camera.

Make it 1 game, it’s a complete circumvention of the salary cap…

I finally got a chance to watch a replay/highlights of the game as I was unable to watch it live outside of OT. UNREAL goaltending on both sides, I love Hartman but he’s not an offensive player, he’s a sandpaper/grinder, you put somebody on the Kaprizov line who can finish and the Wild scores 1-2 more goals that game…

^^^^^Agreed 100%. They now have a $100M salary team. I am fine with no Cap for the playoffs, but to have players sit the entire season whether legitimately injured or not and then jump on the team in time for the playoffs without playing a single game is just wrong IMO.

Hartman was a stud yesterday and his line out-played and out-chanced the Stone line. Fleury robbed everyone on that line multiple times. If Hartman can play like that the rest of the way, watch out.

If anyone deserves to be dumped on it’s Fiala. Vegas is disrespecting him and giving him a chance to explode in this series but he didn’t show up yesterday. Deboer is dead set on stopping Kaprizov, so I was expecting a huge series out of Fiala coming in.

Fiala is either on or off. There doesn’t seem to any in between for him.

Well he’s been ON the whole second half and he’s playing the whole game against against the bottom D pair and bottom 6 forwards. Hopefully he brings it for game 2 and makes them pay.

I dont think Fiala was happy at all about his game and that will be motivation for tomorrow night. I agree that Vegas is gunning for Kaprizov and we will likely need others to produce in order to advance this series.
Any one think that Reaves will be scratched? I didnt see any impact by him being out there.

Not sure Reeves sits yet, I think Vegas will try and turn UP the physicality in game 2. They are desperate to try and turn the page mentally on their difficulties playing the Wild, I think being overly physical is their only hope as I don’t think they can outskill or outspeed the Wild as we have more depth, especially the 4th line…IF Vegas loses game 2, Reeves is done for the series…

I agree that one of these games is going to need to be won by Fiala, Kaprizov really drove the play when he was on the ice and if Hartman capitalizes of 1 of the 5 prime scoring chances he had, the game never gets to OT, they will double-efforts to stop Kirill…

Reaves will be out when Pacioretty comes back. Vegas 4th line was a lot better than I expected.

So I just this highlight from a Zuccy charity game years ago… had me rolling.

How cool is watching hockey with packed arenas again?!?! That Canes game was rocking last night!

Mackinnon’s winning the Conn Smythe, write that down. Aves/Blues game reminded me how freaking good he and the Colorado top line is. He looks like a man possessed and it’s going to take an injury to him or Grubauer to beat that team.
Blues matched the O’Reilly line against them all night and it still looked like JV vs. Varsity. They got scoring chances every single shift.

McKinnon definitely has the EXTRA gear that only McDavid has…if we meet in the next round we’ll see just how good Ek and our 3rd line are at stopping them, I think playing physical against them can work IF you can catch them…Binnington was playing lights out before the dam broke in the 3rd…

The fans were really booing Haula last night. Apparently he and his wife said some things during his time there. Its absolutely great to hear fans. Man, the X will be loud when they allow 4500 in there I cannot imagine if it were at capacity.

Binnington had some huge saves to keep the Blues in the game, but why is he such a clown? He came down to Grubauer at the end of the game pulling the tough guy act again. I would love to see someone knock that guy out.

I could see McDavid or Austin Matthews winning it too. MacKinnon is worthy of it as well though.

Need to win the cup to win the Conn Smyth, and there’s a zero percent chance a North division team wins the Cup.

Ha! I about died when I heard it! I wonder if he realized what he was saying? I know his English is limited, so most of it is probably profanity LOL.
He said that he and Zucc talk Russian, but its mainly cuss words. -)

Also how he said it was like the first text they got from him and hes upset that he’s paired up with the Taxi Squad guys.

Love that he wants to be with the best and his drive to score goals because it shows haha

Speaking of Kaprizov. Watch who he goes for after the goal. Love this kid.
Cup Cred vet Bonino almost beat Foligno to the corner for the celebration from the bench LOL

I will admit, I did watch this for 10 minutes on loop.

He’s a special player, too bad we missed out on 3-5 years of him growing up as a pro in the KHL, but getting a polished diamond sure is nice!

A humble super-star is a rare thing, I have no doubts this is the same player he’ll be when he’s making $9 million vs the $1 he’s making this year…MN hockey fans deserve a player like this to call our own!
