    Any news on Fiala yet?

Doesn’t sound serious. Dean commented that if it were the playoffs he would have played. So that is a good sign. I wonder where he even got hurt in that game? Unless its been something that has been nagging him for a while.

I do remember Lapanta mentioning that Fiala got hurt via a collision and was “wincing” on the bench 2 nights ago…probably bruised up & tender the next day and they just played it safe….

I have no idea how salaries will play out but if the 2020 off season is any indication then it’s the depth players that can expect to get squeezed. Cole, Bonino, and Bjugstadt are all past the phase of signing big contracts so they may take a haircut on salary to stay with a team they like. Bjugstadt is probably looking at league minimum just to stay in the league, but he’s a versatile player that can play center or wing up and down the lineup.

I think Billy G really likes the energy Dumba brings to the team. He’s always been a catalyst among young guys on the team, so that’s making it harder to give him away. Russo has commented that Guerin has grown fond of Dumba this year and is looking for a way to keep him. But agree that salary needs to go, I just hope they can get some valuable assets for him. Easier to say that now after a few big mistakes by Dumba in recent games.

Beckman is another guy that I don’t think should play a 4th line role. If he makes it to the NHL it should be after a year or two tearing up the AHL and then move straight to a middle 6 depth scoring with PP time role.

Held out for precautionary reasons. He missed a game last minute a week ago, so probably still nursing that.

I go back & forth on Dumba, it’s obvious his teammates love him, and he’s a hugely needed personality in that locker room…His game has always been all over the place most of the time, you love him one minute and are yelling wtf a minute later, I gotta think that’s really wearing on his coaches and they would prefer more stability. I think putting his $6 towards offense better suits the team moving forward especially if it could help get a good serviceable (not superstar) Center signed this offseason.

Looking ahead, the 2023/2024 seasons will be gamechangers for the franchise as big contracts like Zuc/Parise/Suter come off the books, but you’ll also need to then make longer term decisions for guys like Greenway/Boldy/Rossi/Addison/Kaapanen and likely others, that will definitely set the direction the team moves in for the years to follow…

It almost wouldn’t be a terrible idea to buyout Parise after this year. There would be some savings each year but then dead money at the end like 800k or so. He isn’t adding much it might be something for BG to seriously consider.

Nice write-up in the athletic about Ek and what he can expect for next contract. They have him in the 5.6 to 6.6 range based on comparables.

The buyout option is definitely something to chew on for GMBG, I would maybe give him 1 more year to see what his projection might look like after a more “normal” season with a normal offseason program & training camp, maybe try him on the 2nd line again and see if he can hang with Fiala and whomever we have at center, if he can’t do it, then he’s back down to the 4th line and buy him out next year…then it’s just 3 years of cap pain

You can tell Evason sees no value in him on this team anymore as his best spot to produce is likely on the powerplay in front of the net and they are choosing to use Rask and Bonino out there instead…

A Parise buyout this summer gives little cap relief, but any time after this year it gives basically no cap relief. So it either happens this summer or not at all. If he’s playing for the Wild next season, which I think he will, then they must be hoping he makes it to LTIR soon.

$6m AAV is a lot for a stone handed 3rd liner.

The high end was if he hit the open market/UFA. They were forecasting that he would be on the lower end because he would want to stay here. We are going to need several guys to do team friendly like Hartman just did.
You can see how much fun these guys are having and how they are just excited for each other.

Agreed, if they don’t do it in 2021 it really makes no sense because the cap savings is minimal. If they do it this year they are saving $5M next year.

I’d be happy if they signed Ek to the 4 year x $4 caphit deal…It gets to the end of the Parise/Suter deals and if Ek keeps improving they’ll have $$ to extend him longterm, if this season was his peak then the $4 caphit doesnt hurt as much…

The other unlikely option is to find a team that might want him still, Wild retains the max 50% ($3.78) of his salary which is alot better than the buyout…unlikely I know, but apparently Lou Lamorello was interested last year so who knows???

Are you guys ok with not resigning Coke because Addison appears to be ready to come up? I think that 3rd D pair has completely changed this team and has allowed the forwards to really focus on scoring because they know they have 3 extremely good d pairs. I think Cole has been the reason for that 3rd pair playing so well.

Sure he’s getting up there but if you can get him for another year for cheap I think you have to do it.

How about home playoff games at full capacity starting the 28th. Hopefully the wild will let it get as close to 100% capacity.

I havent looked into what was said yesterday about the lifting of restrictions but thought I heard they are still going to keep the same amount of fans allowed to go to the Excel Center. Is this true?

From Russo: “#mnwild plan to be at 25% capacity for first round of the playoffs (approximately 4,500 fans).

Season ticket holders will be able to buy tix starting next week.

They will work with the NHL and MN Dept of Health/Governor’s office in the what capacity can be May 28 and beyond”

4,500 fans, roughly 25% capacity, for the first round.
2nd round is TBD since it would be after May 28th when the state restrictions loosen.

Cole is a smart, tough defender who’s skilled enough to make a breakout pass and be good in transition. He’s been really good with Soucy on the 3rd pair, but don’t forget he’s paid almost $4.5m. He’s also gotta be one of the slowest players in the league, but doesn’t seem to let it hurt him much… I’m still waiting to see Cole and Mark Stone turtle race to an iceing.

Cole should be resigned if they can get him at a good price AND they lose Dumba and/or Soucy in the off season. I think it would be a great transition for Addison to play a season with Cole as his partner and then mix in on the powerplay.

I’d love to have Cole back, but at a drastic pay cut in order to make room for the money going to other guys. He has to be at the point he wants to stick in a place for a while. Hoping he does us a solid because he has been so good.

What do you really lose if you replace Cole with say a Dakota Mermis? For sure some experience, leadership and locker room presence, but are those things worth the extra $2-$3 million of capspace that could go towards other pieces, especially for a 3rd pair D that get’s maybe 10-12 minutes a night?

I think if GMBG signs him that’s the signal that Dumba will be gone by the draft…

I didnt see enough from Mermis to gauge what we’d lose, but he did look good. When I say team friendly deal, I am hoping to nab Cole in the 1.5M range. Which could be completely a pipe dream, but perhaps, like I said, he is tired of bouncing around.

This is likely Cole’s last chance to get a 2-3 year term deal, I doubt he’ll want to take a huge hit, my guess is he’ll want $3+ per but take lower if term is increased… he’ll be 33 years old next season and as already mentioned he’s slow as a turtle…

Anyone following U18 Worlds? It’s mostly 2021 draft eligibles but the top 2 scorers aren’t eligible until 2023! 16 yo Matvei Michkov and 15 yo Connor Bedard will be 2 names to keep an eye on, look like future superstars. Bedard absolutely tore up the WHL this season and Michkov might start in the KHL at 16 years old next season… oh yeah and he’s already signed there until he’s 21 whistling

Next best was 2022 draft eligible Shane Wright who is in the O so he didn’t even get season. A lot of the top players from the 2021 draft weren’t playing but it still shows how 2021 is going to be a weak draft class. Hopefully the Wild can pull some depth NHLers outta their late first rounders or use them as trade bait.

In 2023 the Penguins, Capitals and Blackhawks will all be rebuilding so expect them to get the studs and reload for another dynasty run….that draft class alone has about 7-8 guys that would #1 overall picks in any other year…

    Good lord Stonehands…

Yeah he’s terrible. Just another two point night and brought his game once again when nobody else really did.
