the first trade hat dropped last night with the Islanders scooping up BOTH Palmeiri and Zajac! This obviously reduces the available impactful player pool to choose from which in turn drives up the prices…

It also takes a team out of the buying pool. Which I think will be small this year.

They are playing him Jump Around after goals. It’s horrid. No energy. They need to bring back the Goal Chant. It is Wild tradition. Or bring back Let’s go Crazy. That was better even. I hope they get that message.

Please no. Crowd chant sucks. Anything else but that. Play Sweet Caroline or anything but I hate crowd chant.

You may have missed my follow up. No I would not want to trade for him. I was more or less giving a smart arse answer. lol

    Yeah I got jokes too.

Honestly I tried replying that a bunch of times a few days ago but ran into the quote glitch and didn’t figure it out. I can’t just pass up an opportunity to mention Dany Heatley, so I had to come back to it.

TOTALLY agree – let’s go crazy BLOWS in my opinion
Also, games should start with the State of Hockey Anthem – that should be mandatory and is COMPLETELY the state of Hockey. It used to be every game but not always anymore ( gave up our seats for the 2019 season so maybe I am missing it)

I couldn’t stand Let’s Go Crazy. Trying too hard for the #OneOfUS connection with that one.

And AFAIK, they still play the State of Hockey Anthem between the 2nd and 3rd periods every game. If it was at the beginning of games at some point, I don’t recall, but for the longest time it has been between periods.

On to business. Some interesting rentals proposed in the Hockey Wilderness.

Erik Haula – Obvious attraction to Haula being his faceoff % is better than anything we have.

Nick Foligno – Not sure if loading up on more wingers makes sense, but Foligno would add to the options for a shutdown line, which was used to great effect against Colorado’s one line wonder the other night.

Andreas Athanasiou – Probably the most interesting centerman option on the list as far as I can see for bang/buck potential. Low cap hit.

Danault – Lots of discussion on him already, IMO spendy option and possibly causes down the road issues.

Great game by the Wild 2 nights ago, and IMO the game puck goes to Deano for getting the matchup of Greenway/Ek on the ice against the Avs Landeskog line. Can’t call it a shutdown line, but grinding that top Avs line down and making them burn ice time in the D zone was key IMO and left the Avs exposed.

The Wild have to quit being afraid of the Avs, they played like they should have played in that win and it showed.

can he backup Talbot? Kaahkonnen is horrible tonight. He has been dropping down on EVERY squared up shot and they shoot high glove. Same thing in the previous 2 games for him. WTF!? He was so great and now he’s terrible.

He wasn’t good but how many of those goals were uncovered guys sniping from about 15 ft out? Just about all of them. D was just as bad.

Columbus gets 2 x 1st rounders in their trades, It sure sounds like a seller’s market to me! It will be interesting for sure…

Curious to see what GMBG does tomorrow?!?

Pateryn gets traded again this season to San Joes for Dubnyk. Colorado must have realized they had to do something about their goaltending situation.

What a weird deadline so far. Foligno and Savard both get a 1st, and Hall only gets a 2nd. Apparently Tampa set the new trend to pay 1st rounders for “grit” at the deadline last year. It seems like GMs are targeting specific players, not the big names, and paying whatever it takes to get them. Following that trend I think Bonino, Cole, and Hartman are the 3 guys with a (small) chance to see an overpayment for today. I doubt it happens but if some GM comes calling with a 2nd round pick, they should do it – probably need a 1st for Hartman.

Mike Reilly gets a 3rd round pick in a generational 2022 draft? Values are way overblown, Cole should be able to command that if not more…GMBG needs to cash in!

The returns for some of the guys are ridiculous. So much for quiet deadline. IDK what BG will do but he is obviously listening.
Foligno back tonight and sounds like Fiala is still out, but skated.
Sturm at center again which I think he had a great game.
I have “Trade Central” on in the background as I work. SN does an awesome job with this.
I wonder if BG will try and sign Lindberg now that College is done. Couldnt hurt to get him some time in Iowa.

Nothing done at the deadline for the Wild, while we dont know what was offered for who, it sure seems like the sellers came out on top…

I am not sure the Wild were considered sellers.
I kind of thought this is how it would go for the wild honestly. They are a playoff team and selling in that position is pretty rare.

It was interesting that I believe none of the teams that were “gifted” a playoff spot last year because of the expanded format, all stood pat. I think that shows that none of them thought they were serious contenders.

Holy cow did Washington OVERPAY for Anthony Mantha!!!!
I guess this is them thinking its their last shot at another cup and they don’t plan on resigning Ovi…

Teams HAD to be calling about Cole and Bonino and if 3rd round picks were paid for guys like Mike Reilly, GMBG better not have turned down teams offering more!!

Especially if both walk away for nothing after this season…

That was a huge haul for him. I have to wonder what Greenway could have gotten? I cannot imagine it would be as much, but certainly in that general area I would think.

Plenty of teams role players walk away at the end of a season. Not sure why Bonino and Cole would fetch more than Riley. Not as if they are vastly better or more valuable.
Both you could argue are more valuable to this team this year than a 3rd or 4th round pick in a weak draft.

I guess I accepted that they are much better than we all thought they would be at the beginning of the season. So doesn’t surprise me they keep the team together for the year and see what kind of playoff experience this team can garner. As in winning a round and maybe upsetting another team. I am fine with the lack of movement.

There’s 2 days in the NHL where I’m perfectly happy with GM shutting his phone off, staying in bed, and doing absolutely nothing. That’s July 1 and the trade deadline. So many bad decisions get made on those days, so I have no problem with GMBG standing pat today. Could they have gotten a “big haul” (2nd/3rd rounder) for one of Hartman/Bonino/Cole? Maybe. Would that definitely have hurt the team this year? Yes.

The Wild are in that “intheplayoffsbutnotaconteder” bubble. Basically their happy place over the last 10 years. Most teams in that spot were quiet at this deadline and this was definitely a different trade deadline where there’s only 2 playoff spots up for grabs. Even those 2 spots are likely filled by the Preds and Blues.

Greenway’s game has taken a dump lately, complete 180 from the first 15 games of the season. Almost looks like he’s laboring trying to skate and he just can’t keep up. If he’s healthy and finishes out the season like this, then there’s no concern over protecting him in the XPAC draft and I say trade him in the offseason if a high pick/legit prospect is still possible.

Game most likely postponed tonight due to curfew.

More time to get Fiala healthy I guess

It made sense, actually reminded me of the Zucker trade, UNTIL I saw Vrana included. Maybe I’m missing something on Vrana, but to me it looks like the Caps gave up a 1st and 2nd for basically a lateral move. WOW.

BG has commented that he didnt get any calls on the UFA’s because he was up front about the Wild’s plans that if they were in playoff position they were content keeping the club in tact. Makes so much sense. Like tswoboda said, GMs can make so many boneheaded moves at the deadline and I am glad BG didnt do anything. We’ve had some doozies that’s for sure. None probably bigger than the Hanzal/White one. Oooofff.

I call B.S that he didnt get calls on Cole and Bonino just based on similar (but much less playoff experienced) players that got traded today…no way he didnt get calls…
