How much do you pay for an 33 year old 3rd pair D? I’m sure BG is just getting an idea of what his agent is looking for, if its more than he wants he’ll unload him at the deadline…
It’s going to be hard to appeal to fans and the locker room if he sells of players on a playoff team. That’s bad optics IMO. Russo has been saying this exact thing. Unless there is really something he can’t turn down, this is the roster they will roll with the rest of the season if they are in the playoffs race. Dumping these guys regardless of whether or not they are under contract after this year is a bad look and likely wouldn’t yield anything beneficial in return for now or the future.
Nice of Bally Sports North to put a banner all the way across the bottom of the screen so we can’t see what’s happening along the boards at the bottom.

yeah it sucks for hockey viewing for sure.

I agree 100percent. Unless there is a “hockey trade” to be made I don’t see them unloading or selling at the deadline.
Wild need to win this one for Talbot. Unreal game from him tonight.
We’re talking about a 4th line center, a 3rd line wing and a 3rd pair D (I dont think Bjugstad would get any interest)
NONE of those guys have a future here after this season with high profile rookies on rookie contracts waiting to play…
You dont let them go for 6th and 7th rounders as the disruption to your team isnt worth that, but if your offered 3rd/4th round or better picks, you drive them to the airport…
They have plenty of picks in this draft. Just don’t see them selling. Just my opinion.
WOW Talbot stole that one! That game was worth staying up for…
The back to back saves on Kolesar alone saved the game, but then add in 3 or 4 breakaways and a bunch of other odd man rushes. Pretty much all the rushes came off of turnovers in the neutral and offensive zone, it’s unreal how fast Vegas can get numbers going the other way.
Overall though the team looked way better last night, biggest change was guys actually getting pucks to the net. Everyone had the shoot first mentality like they finally realized they are allowed to shoot even if it’s not a backdoor tap in. Certainly was a much more fun game to watch than the previous half dozen or so. Now if they can just clean up the turnovers they’ll be back to winning games consistently.
What’s concerning to me is that the defensive breakdowns are happening with all 3 defensive groups, we can’t just blame Soucy… the amount of breakaways we’ve given up in the last 6 or so games is sadly comical…
Bright spots – Kaprizov looks energized again and Luke Johnson played really well, i’d be a bit worried if I was Sturm….Guys like Luke Johnson are who should comprise our 4th line moving forward, rookies on minimum contracts trying to earn their spot in the NHL and playing their a$$ off every shift so they don’t get sent back down to Iowa…Kyle Rau (even though he still panics with the puck) gives maximum effort every shift and is always sacrificing himself for the team…if you get 3 x 4th line guys all making $500-$750k, that frees up another 3-4 million to spend on the top 6…
This is going to be a tough stretch of games coming up. Tremendous game by Talbot. There is just something about his demeanor that I like. I mean, every time they do a camera shot into his eyes its like this laser focused locked in look. There is no panic in him, all his movements are controlled and sound. At this point if I were the Kraken regardless of who else the Wild left exposed, he would be the person I would grab.
The lines last night at the start of the game had me scratching my head, but they sort of worked. Johnson sure played a good game and he was pretty decent on the faceoff.
Russo did a fun piece today around the trade deadline and pitched fan “trade” proposals to execs to get their reaction. He said he received 977 proposals. LOL Wild fans are crazy.
The one trade that on the surface you’re like no way that gets done, was a trade involving Rask to Detroit for Glendening. Rask was drafted by Ron Francis (Kraken GM), Detroit really doesnt have much that appeals for expansion so this might work out for the Wild, Detroit and the Kraken. Hmm, interesting for sure.
The saves by Talbot last night were just straight impressive! We would of lost that game with any of our past goalies in net. That was a great signing by Billy G!
Can the NHL hold off on any more expansion teams! Just getting annoying and I’m sure GM’s are just sick of it.

They will now have an even 32 teams (right?) so I dont see them adding new teams for a long time now…I do think you’ll see the Panthers snd Coyotes relocate though…

Glendening is wanted by alot of teams due to his skillsets and small caphit, I think his price will get inflated too much for the Wild…

Talbot gave a big double fist pump after the SO save on Tuch to seal it last night. I think that’s the first emotion I’ve seen out of him all season.

I don’t see why the Wild would be hot after Glendening, they already have a pile of bottom 6 center options……… plus Eriksson Ek
Hard to sign Cole when you have Addison ready next year. If signed it would need to be at the Vets minimum for 1-2 years max, not sure Cole would accept that…
Maybe we’d up the offer if Soucy and Dumba are gone by the draft, but in the end he’s an aging 3rd pair D, those guys are a dime a dozen…
A Dumba trade before the XPAC draft is the only way a Cole extension makes sense to me. Have to assume that if Dumba’s gone then Soucy is 100% getting taken by Seattle. If that happens then there’s 3 open spots on the wild blue line next year and Cole could fill one of them. $2ish mil for 2 years seems reasonable to me.

If it comes down to choosing Saucy or Talbot, i’m not sure there’s a better goalie option for Seattle? and he has 2 years left on a small caphit (vs say Fleury at $7 million) so he would be a good foundation to keep them in games for a few years…

If they can get Cole for 2 years at $2 that might be ok, just don’t want him to turn into a Pateryn…He’ll get some serious interest at the deadline though…would you turn down a 3rd or 2nd round pick? You could always sign him in FA in 3 months…
Would I turn it down dunno. Probably not but I also don’t think you need another third round pick in an already weak draft. They have plenty of draft capital in the 2021 draft. Two first, Two third, and a pick in every other round. Stockpiling more in this draft is somewhat a waste as they have enough capital to make other moves if they choose. We are already out of the dog days of not having future picks anymore. So adding some here and there in the future is fine just don’t see the need for more in this draft.
I know I know you can never have enough draft picks.

Agreed. I would almost trade 1 of this year’s first rounders and something else to get another pick in next year’s first round. That is going to be a DEEEEEP draft.
Using extra picks to move back into early rounds I think is a good strategy and something GMBG did several times last draft. I agree extra late round picks (Vikings draft strategy) are pretty worthless and not worth it.
Quality over quantity
I believe they have enough to do that strategy. I also think every other GM knows it’s a weak draft and probably doesn’t want to get more mid round picks either or move back.
Guess we will have to wait and see.

the risk is way too high to trade your 1st round pick for 2022, lots can happen over the offseason and early injuries can derail a season lost, just ask San Jose last year giving their top 5 pick to the Senators…

The only reason I said I would trade a first rounder this year is because we have two of them. Otherwise no way.

yep, I was just saying trading a future 1st rounder is too risky, the Sharks bad luck is the test case on how it can go bad..
I would do the same. You have 2 in the last 1/3 of draft in a weak draft. Moving one to get a pick in the back 1/3 or better in a stronger draft is a smart move. They are not dealing a 5th pick like the sharks.
Hoping they use one of those picks for a player preferably a center would be my first choice.
If pick swaps for this year for next year in first round happen in a package deal deal with just about any team I would not consider that part a loss.
My point was the Sharks didnt know they were trading a top 5 pick, they thought they were a serious cup contender…they traded a year in advance and then got burned by injuries and poor play the year of that draft…
Why on earth would a team trade their unknown 2022 draft pick (could be the 1st overall pick) in a generational draft for a late round 2021 draft pick where a majority of the players to be drafted played in only a handful of games in a years timeframe???
Nobody is giving up their 2022 1st round pick…
