Those 2 can still play the position well, win faceoffs and be puck distributors to their wingers, yes they are slower, but speed was never part of their games to begin with…

I’d love to hear your better options that are realistically available…

    Granlund is going to market.

Also, it was a joke. Statsny and Krejci are fine players, I never said they were bad. You picked the two oldest guys available and then said the Wild’s targets will have to be even older and slower. Can you tell me who is older and slower than the 2 guys you mentioned? E. Staal and Getzlaf… that’s the extent of UFA centers that are older than Statsny and Krejci.

yeah, my wording didn’t make sense, I meant mostly skill wise…we’re left with mostly 4th line cenrters from a FA standpoint…

It helps both teams, Chicago gets a capable player and a 2nd round draft pick instead of just making the LTIR payments and Tampa gets the LTIR payments instead of the $5 million caphit and it only cost them a 2nd round pick…its a lever only the big market teams typically pull…

I’m with you, Tampa is using cash as a trade asset – and not every team has the means do that. But it’s not anything close to cap circumvention. Moving Tyler Johnson is what gives them cap relief, acquiring Seabrook is just Tampa spending cash instead of another asset.

Hockey twitter and some people on this thread seem to think Seabrook’s contract magically brings all this extra cap space to the Bolts, and that’s just not the case. There’s this big internet outrage about Tampa acquiring Seabrook that I just don’t understand.

I don’t think this case is circumvention at all (Toronto has been doing this for years) they simply purchased $5 million in capspace for a 2nd round pick and the actual cash payments to Seabrook…

LTIR will be nerfed in the next CBA, but until then why not take advantage if you can afford it?

My only interest in the FA buzz at 11:00am is to see what happens with Puis Suter…my guess is that the Wild are outbid by Columbus or Buffalo…

we only got a 7th round pick for Mennell? at his age and KHL success, you’d think he’d garner a bit more than a 7th… at least he won’t be adding to our oompa loompa size issue…

    They moved him?

Also read a Russo tweet saying he’s hearing the wild have backed out of the Eichel talks. Thank god. Can’t believe they stayed in them this long.

So they give away Menell for nothing… what am I missing here? Trade seems pointless for the Wild, potential high reward for the Leafs.

    X2 on the Eichel deal.

**Conditional 7th rounder for Menell. Only gets transferred if he plays 30 games for the Leafs next season. So basically gave him away for nothing.

Suter to the Stars for 4 years!!! @ $3.65m cap hit. Wild will get an up close and personal look at how he ages over the term of the buyout. Fans better not freaking boo him at the X.

Want me to ruin your surprise on Suter? It’s already being reported.

Tampa Bay doing Tampa Bay things again. Here we go. Taking on Seabrook FFS close that loophole NHL.

Please tell me how acquiring Seabrook helps Tampa’s cap situation.

    Spoiler alert… it doesn’t.

Not aware of the LTIR concept? Allows them to accrue cap space and spend over the cap. Surely you were being sarcastic when you replied. The NHL is actively watching the teams using LTIR because last season 17 of 31 were using it. They are deeply looking into it and may request medical records etc so if you dont think it helps teams then obviously the NHL disagrees.

My guess is that he wasn’t going to sign the 2 way deal so they got something for nothing… we need to get alot bigger on the backend anyways…

So BG didnt want to bend on giving Mennell a one way, Mennell didnt want a two way so they parted ways and got nothing. I don’t get this at all. Mennell had a better chance then ever to make the roster. I feel we gave up on him. He was great last year in the KHL and I believe led defensemen in pts or assists on the PP.

Goligoski done. 1 year $5m. Big number, not sure I like it.

Parise to the Isles, no surprise there.

Belpedio signing with MTL. Another Wild D prospect gone. BG has to have something bigger in the works?

Goligoski one year 5 million no trade clause.

We need D but that does seem a little steep. That makes me think signing Cole is going to take the same number.

Looks like we made an offer to Zack Bogosian but he chose TB.

We also lost Belpedio to MTL

I view it as a 1 year insurance policy to make sure Addison can handle top 4 minutes in 2022-2023, Gologoski would have gone elsewhere for more term if the $ wasn’t there from the Wild. hard to find another top 4 D who didn’t want alot of term at likely $4+ per….

Market seems way to high. Buy low, sell high. Trade KK, and everyone else of value and start gobbling up draft picks. Look towards 2025 and forget about KK, cause he’s gunna want $24 mil over 2 years.

RS, $14.6 mil for 4 yrs for a 36 1/2 yr old, unreal. Good luck with that one.

Sounds like Cole has offers a lot higher than the wild can spend. This could be a rough free agency for us and we might be playing a ton of rookies this year……foligno has a few other offers also.

Maybe GMBG is letting teams blow their $ and get into cap issues and then he swoops in afterwards and gets good deals on guys?!? or wait until Seattle needs to start unloading their extra D?

You think? I mean what is he waiting for?

Interesting tidbit Russo just clarified regarding the big $5 Gologoski 1 year deal, there’s likely a “verbal agreement” in place to extend him for a lower caphit next year…so instead of a hypothetical 2 year $7 million dollar deal ($3.5 caphit both years), it’s a 1 year $5 (this year) and then we’ll extend you for $2 next year ($2 caphit in 2022)…so unofficial cap circumvention ;)

Those of us who remember the “Joe Smith” t-wolves deal get a little squeamish when we hear about these things…

We signed Goudreau. Another fourth line center. 2 years $2.4 million.

Cole reportedly signing in Carolina for $2.9 for one year. I would’ve thought we could’ve afforded that.

Sounds like Foligno being pursued by Avalanche and Bruins. BG probably going to have to overspend on him. I think he gave Goligoski to much. I was thinking four mill tops for him. This trend of bringing old Minnesota war horses home when they are nearly used up continues I guess.

Wild are pretty hamstrung with Fiala and Kaprizov still hanging fire. Fiala wants long term security which they can’t give him until Kaprizov makes his deal. Kaprizov wants to see a big improvement down the middle for the Wild which just can’t happen with what’s out there that’s available. Or he wants to be just walked to FA.

I think this is going to get messy. I sure have to think BG wanted the KK deal to have been done before the bell rang today.

read my post a few up, Russo said it’s likely an agreed upon 2 year deal but have to split it up with a huge chunk this season because of our larger cap space…
