    Spurgeon – 5’9″
    Brodin – 6’1″
    Dumba – 6′
    Mennell – 5’11”
    Addison – 5’10”

Absolutely need to get some size. I wonder if BG revisits the offer he made to Mennell? Apparently it was a two-way, but Mennell wants a one-way.

I know he WANTS a 1-way deal, but isn’t that something that’s earned? I mean if he’s playing well, he’ll stay with in the NHL and earn the NHL paycheck, if he can’t hack it, he’ll get put on waivers and then sent down to Iowa if he clears…Seems like he has all the control on what level of pay he earns this year right? and we can’t be talking about that big of a difference paywise since he’s likely going to be near the NHL minimum anyways?

Teams have given rookie players one ways before, but agreed, it is typically something that is earned. A lot of the college FA guys that don’t sign with their drafting teams seem to get one-way deals. Mainly because I think they choose another team who will give it to them most likely.

One way contract is a big deal to fringe NHLers… It’s what keeps them out of the AHL. Contracts absolutely are a factor in who stays with the big club vs. who bounces back and forth. Just pretend the wild are cap-crunched (we don’t have to pretend) and they need to send down waiver’s exempt players on off days to build cap space. Or if they ever make a waiver claim, guess who’s getting sent down to make that player fit… whoever is on a 2-way deal and waivers exempt.

And the pay difference is likely over 100% difference between AHL and NHL. Yes there’s a handful of guys (like 4) on 2-way contracts that make the same in either the AHL or NHL. But for the most part a monster AHL contract is like $300k vs. $700k minimum in the NHL.

Funny you mention the “leaks” Joe, I was thinking the same thing. I will still watch the draft tonight regardless, but SEA has made some interesting selections.

How pissed does ESPN have to be. This is their coming out party for the NHL and there’s literally no reason to watch tonight. I think every single pick has been leaked like 8 hours before the big TV event.

Why didn’t NHL have Seattle submit their official list like half hour before the show?

My guess is that the “leak” info was coming from the other teams. I mean, that would make sense vs SEA leaking it, but I agree they should have just given their list right before the show.
I will still watch. I think we will see the other deals that will clear up why certain players were taken. Some of them are head scratchers.

The size issue of our D is why I was hoping Kappo was going to be picked. Sure he was good last year but that second half and his glove scare me.

It’s the world we live in with everyone needs to be one breaking the news. They were submitted early likely because the NHL needs some time to setup and build the TV program with all of the graphics, video clips and interviews with the selected players.

We’ll see it again on Friday when each draft pick is announced 5 minutes early on twitter…

His second half doesn’t bother me as Talbot was given the majority of games and Kappo had zero chance to build any momentum playing once every 7-8 games…Kappo has had success every level he’s played at, once he’s given the starters torch I think he’ll be successful.

The size of our D is an issue…The good thing is that it can be addressed immediately…I think Joel Edmundson from Montreal would be a perfect fit and is on a great contract for 3 more seasons…

Russo has an updated article regarding potential targets. Some of the names move the needle for me. McCabe would be a good fit, but with any of these guys term and cap hit are going to be crucial.
He’s pretty convinced the Wild will have the Foligno tandem. Still thinks Cole will be targeted but again it will come down to term and Cap hit.
Goligoski is referenced, but IDK if that does much for me. We have decent puck moving D men even with the ones we lost, but we need to see the BEEF.
Edmundson I think would be fantastic too.

I do hope that on the Kraken draft show tonight they at least list out the trades that were made to protect certain players, I’m convinced Carolina did this to keep Jack Bean…

Don’t see how Menall and Addison can both be in the lineup. Don’t they both play similar style and both similar type players. Kind of feel one of them needs to be traded for some bigger guy/s

Maybe they leaked the picks early to save us all from the pain of watching this thing. It’s only been three picks and I can’t watch anymore…..

Vegas’s draft party a couple of years ago was also a stinker and that’s Las Vegas!
Didn’t their main intro video fail?

I just got home and started watching and yes this is a dumpster fire!

Seems like they are going pretty young, with a lot of guys that only have 20 or so games under their belts. Can they sign a bunch of free agent players and send some of these young guys to their minor league team if they stay well below the cap?

they’ll get better, this show was doomed from the start as anybody who pays any attention to hockey knew all of the picks this morning… its hard to get excited for the 11th/12th best player from each team being announced.

Have they mentioned any player protection trades yet?

No they haven’t and I read from a lot of the Athletic beat writers from teams that trades didn’t really happen.

Chris just said “flying F&%$” instead of flying puck! HAAA

I just read a thread that said any side deals Seattle made with teams to protect certain players can’t be announced until after the trade freeze period (noon tomorrow)

Seems stupid not to do it tonight during the show…

I guess the only good thing about tonight is that the NHL doesn’t plan on expanding again for a LONG time….

I’m guessing GMBG has some other GM on his speed dial for when the clock strikes noon today to hopefully get at least 1 of his top choices of available defenseman…

it should be a crazy 31 hours before the first pick of the draft is called out Friday night, I think you’ll see the Kraken involved in alot of trades today mostly being the salary retention broker for the teams getting a trade done, they then get a draft pick or two as their commission…

Russo basically just said Nick Foligno WILL be on this team and basically sliding into Parise’s spot from last season.

which spot? 4th line role? I see him actually taking Ek’s spot as the 3rd line center between his brother and Greenway…

To me Foligno is more of a wing at this stage of his career. I am not sure center is best fit for him. Maybe, but I think he has been more of a wing recently no?
