Wasn’t being combative, sorry if it came off that way. Just legit curious where you heard that so I can do some more digging.

I didnt take it that way at all. I would believe what Friedman says, but that is of right now. We will see what happens. Hopefully its sooner than 5 years for sure.

BG is so refreshing to listen to. We will see if this plays out like he is hoping, but far departure from previous GMs.

OMG yes! He had the room erupt in laughter 3 times.
Reporter: what does your expansion protected list look like now?
BG: I CAN’T TELL YOU THAT!! chased

The other thing to remember about years 3 & 4 of this buyout is that Zuccarello and Dumba’s $6 million come off the books those years, so that helps a bit…both will likely get dealt at the trade deadline of their final years for whatever you can get for them…Dumba’s limited no trade list kicking in at the end of this month might hamper trading him sooner…

This puts much more pressure on Judd to nail their two first round picks this year as those players will likely be needed to make the team 2-3 years from now…

End of an era for sure. Unfortunate how it turned out but unfortunate the NHL changed the rules the year after they were signed.
Now what is everyone going to complain about when they lose. jester
Out with old in with the new.

I guess this means Bjugstad is in the line up. 🤮

talk about a huge blow to the Seattle Kraken! Here they thought they had the Wild by the balls and was going to get either a top young player or some picks/prospects to not take a specific player, now they are basically stuck with Soucy, Rask or Kahkonen…

For sure a blow to Seattle, but also makes Soucy a lot more valuable to the Wild. They are all of the sudden short on LHD. May still be some incentive to explore a side deal to send them Rask.

No doubt they’ll be heavily reliant on ELCs the next 4 seasons. Billy G flipped one of the oldest teams to one of the youngest in 2 seasons.

I think a dumba extension is more likely than a dumba trade now. He very well may get a letter on his jersey at some point. Front runners are definitely Folignlo and Ek but dumba is likely next in line when injuries pop up.

You know I’m all on board with dealing Rask away…as long as we have a plan to get some other center and the trade kicker with Rask is a mid-level prospect….
I also think Kaapo getting picked by Seattle is much more possible now…

I still think this was a precursor move to something else. Russo laid out a bunch of important dates coming up today:
Tuesday: Deadline to ask players with no-move clauses to waive for the purpose of expansion only, 4 p.m.
Friday: Deadline for players to agree or decline to waive no-move clauses, 4 p.m.
Saturday: Trade freeze goes into effect, 2 p.m.
Saturday: Expansion protected lists must be submitted to NHL, 4 p.m.
Sunday: Expansion protected and exposed lists revealed publicly
Sunday: Seattle can begin interviewing pending unrestricted and restricted free agents
    July 21: Expansion draft, 7 p.m.
    July 22: Trade freeze ends, 12 p.m.
July 23: First round of NHL Draft, 7 p.m.
    July 24: Rounds 2-7 of NHL Draft, 10 a.m.
July 27: First buyout window closes, 4 p.m. (teams that have a restricted free agent file for arbitration get a second buyout window next month; Fiala and Brandon Duhaime are Minnesota’s only arbitration-eligible restricted free agents).
This Expansion draft has suddenly gotten more interesting for the Wild. I’d hate to lose Soucy now that Suter is gone, but to me he is the one I think SEA would pick. There are going to be other goalies available and FLA has potentially two of them that would be of interest, obviously only one can get selected.
Does SEA have a farm team or do they have to build one of them as well? I havent been paying attention to that piece. I guess they can only take 30 players (Vegas is exempt, how fitting is that?).

and lastly to all those complaining about $15 million in dead money for 2 years. What would you then call it if BOTH Parise and Suter were in the press box or sitting at home in 2 years? My point being 4th line anchor/healthy scratch players making $15 million dollars is NO DIFFERENT than having $15 million in dead caphit…The only difference is that they were taking 2 roster spots that could be filled by hungry rookies learning their craft and gaining real NHL experience…

oh and if either got pissed off enough at anytime they could put the nail in the Wild coffin and retire early and we get hit with cap recapture penalties…

Musky. They are sharing a farm team with another team. Can’t remember off the top of my head who. They do have to select 3 goalies.

I don’t follow the front office moves/options nearly as much as most of you guys, but I have to agree Billy G is a breath of fresh air. From how he presents in interviews, to the no nonsense produce or don’t play mentality and most importantly imo being the boss and dictating the organizational culture.

During the presser it was interesting when asked about how long he deliberated about this decision. He said 6 to 8 months. Dang, that is a long time. I mean, I didnt think something like this would just be decided in a day, but for some reason that seems like a long time to me.

X2! Was just talking with a co-worker about BG. Every other move any of the past 3 GM’s made, there was some kind of BS going with it. I’m not sure, even here on this thread, that anyone has had much bad to say about any of BG’s moves so far in his GM career with the Wild. It truly is breath of fresh air and optimism!

Still think back as it was revealed the owner almost had Steve Yzerman as a GM but it was the year he was going to manage the Canadian team and said it would be unfair to the Wild for him to do both. I think the following year he went to Tampa.

Will be interesting how Bill fills out the rest of his roster for next year now. He obviously has full support from the owner to make these two moves.

My favorite Twitter hot take of the day:

Whatever team ends up signing Ryan Suter needs to understand that unless they also have Jared Spurgeon for him to play with, they are not getting what they think they’re getting.

And nobody has a Jared Spurgeon.

Barreiro isnt pulling any punches with his questions, but I love how BG responds to them. The question about whether he regretted not playing Parise more in the playoffs and it was an unequivocal “no”. Doubling down Barreiro asks “why not?”. BG: “Because we were playing well.” Love it.

He was just asked who will be harder to sign Fiala or KK.

I don’t know I guess we will see who is a bigger pain in the ass.

From what Russo has eluded to I’m guessing it’ll be Fiala. At least in the pain in the ass category.

With the two giants finally gone, do you see BG signing KK, Fiala, and Dumba and trying to get a competent center in FA, or sign KK, Dumba OR Fiala, and a quality FA center?

I still can’t believe BG is such a hammer. It’s like watching Game of Thrones and seeing all the top characters getting killed. HA

Dumba is still signed for 2 more years, Kaprizov will get resigned to most likely a 4 year deal, Fiala is the wildcard here, he could be resigned for 4-5 years if he accepts around $6 million per, if he holds out for more than that I could see him get easily traded… I think the players and agents around the league just found out GMBG dont play games..

To me there is no rush to sign trade for centers per say. He is not building a team for next season to make a run.
I think Cole will be back.

We need at least 1 though…they would be our stopgap 1C who could easily transition to 2C if Rossi pans out in a year or so… Dvorak in Arizona would be a perfect fit and they need a 1st round pick and prospects for their rebuild…

Honestly with seeing what Montreal did there is no reason the Wild couldn’t be there next year. Yeah they’re going back to regular divisions but honestly you add one legit center they aren’t far off even with Rask playing down the lineup preferably. Tomas Hertl would be a nice add or Dvorak.
