Was it the 2020?
The regs usually don’t come out until now. Early August is what they usually say.

test. I posted this test because my previous reply to this thread was visible but after I updated it with links it disappeared. I heard there were some issues here. FYI-Drumming counts down.
I should really do some digging on how they decide these zones, we hunt opening weekend in 259 and there are deer everywhere. It’s literally bambi land, and we’ve gone from an one deer either sex tag, to a doe lottery. Meanwhile a mile away is a 3 deer zone in 241, a 1 deer either sex zone to the south in 246 (also a bambi land, that buddies hunt and I drive thru regularly), and 2 deer limit CWD Zone 184 to the north. Just seems so arbitrary.
Once you get into northern MN I believe winter becomes a big wild card. Depending on the severity of any given winter you can see fluctuations in harvest goals the following season. This is definitely true as you go further east into Zone 1. I suspect many of the northern Zone 2 areas dont always see the harvest fluctuations due to large deer numbers but any given permit area may not be immune from old man winter. Throw in some adjacent CWD intensive harvests and who knows how things shake out.

gotta draw a line somewhere I suppose. I know in 171, there are some absolute great areas…and some parts that should be buck only (horrible deer numbers)…but overall I’m happy it’s lottery. It’s hard to judge when you drive around and see lots of deer on private and hardly any on public…I wonder if they use that data to draw lines as well.

Yeah I’m pretty sure that is the issue, as the majority of 259 is in the Paul Bunyan State Forest and there’s not really a good way to draw the line south of it. Once you are out of the Bunyan it is woods and ag mixed, and therefore a much higher deer population. Between the big woods, wolves and hunting pressure in the Bunyan there may never be the per acre deer #’s they are looking for. Between bow and 2nd weekend in another zone I have plenty of opportunity, just didn’t make much sense to me, since we will sometimes see dozens of deer, primarily doe/fawns, during season. And if CWD spreads, everything would change quick the way they manage it now.
A little FYI I seen a nice buck cross the road the other morning in the same place as your last year bow kill. Kinda far in front of me but looked pretty good already.

I always have my phone ready when i go by that spot now. Last year i fumbled around and ended up getting a picture of my dash and no deer video. Wont happen again.
