Had my good luck charm in the stand with me this morning. Next year he will be old enough to hunt so I can’t wait to see what his luck brings him, because I’m 3/3 on bucks when he sits with me the last 3 years!

And a muzzie no less. Way to go and congrats on an outstanding buck!

Thanks Tom! I couldn’t find a left handed slug barrel for my 13 y.o.’s Remington 870. So I gave him my slug gun to shoot, I took the old smoke pole since I was only going to shoot if I seen a big one.

Not with a big barred! That’s awesome. Maybe 25-30 feet away for me. Did have a little screech owl that close once.

Found him! Little wood frog. In the middle facing right.

Yep! He’s got perfect camouflage going.

Very cool to not only see the deer pics, but nature ones as well. There was a busy little mouse that came up to my daughter’s feet yesterday that completely freaked her out! Was hilarious!

On that note, we still have ice on a few ponds and the Otters are making use of play time.

This little guy came in on Saturday at 2PM and hung around a while. He came and drank at the little pond, stretched and then laid right down just below the stand.

He was back at the water yesterday morning at 6:30 but didn’t stay real long. He didn’t mind my talking to him either time. When he looked up at me each time I’d wave and he just walked off. Cute little guy, maybe 35 pounds and no Mother seen anywhere with him so likely an orphan.

Well good to hear some of you had success! I had a real rough hunt. Only had one come through 20 minutes before shooting light on saturday morning. Hunted three different spots that had pretty good sign.

First deer for my daughter! I went out to hunt by myself and on my way to my stand I spotted a doe in the weeds with another deer in the brush back behind her that had a pretty decent rack. After glassing it for a little bit I determined it was our buck Scrappy, a decent little ten point. It wasn’t something I was going to shoot. I thought I’d try something crazy. So I texted Mom at home and asked if she’d be willing to drive at least one hunter kid up to my dad’s a half hour away. It seemed like an eternity, but 40 minutes later here came my daughter up the trail in her orange. After belly crawling up the hill to where I was hiding behind a tree, we only had to wait about 2 minutes for the doe to get up and the buck followed her. I made a quick little whistle to stop him. I had her use my 270 and she made a perfect shot.

That is cool, I’ve never had them get closer than about 10′.

Congrats to all those success hunters out there this year, I don’t know about all on MN but SE MN had pretty tough conditions with hot weather and high winds. I guess all my bad MN mojo decided to unleash itself this season after 5 good years and the last 4 quite successful in putting my tag on good bucks. Will be back at it next weekend but these last 3.5 days were tough but definitely not for lack of trying.

What a difference a day makes!!! Got about 5 inches of fluffy snow. My heart goes out to the folks with the nasty heavy slop! 17 degrees out. The deer travel across the roads was nothing short of amazing in spots.

Moved to a south facing slope for evening. I’ve seen 16 deer today. All does n fawns. No bucks. But I have Sticker walking through that opening in front of me, many times in trail cam. Talked to the neighbors, I’m 95% sure he’s still out there.

A little nicer morning today. Seen 1 3 year old 8 pointer eating acorns with a doe. No chasing. Looked more like buddies.

3 nights ago my buddy watched 2 bucks fight for 45 minutes. Now I’m seeing a ton of does but no bucks. I shot a doe 2 nights ago at 324 yards. It was my farthest ever shot. After filling my tag on opener I have been lazy and sleeping in in the mornings but still going out for the evenings to scout stands. 2 of my boys will be up tonight to hunt the rest of the weekend.

The gun hunters sent me a text to say I could have the farm for the night(I normally vacate the farm for gun season). Its to perfect of a night to not go, right?! I’m sitting on the ground at the bottom of draw with beans to the right and corn to the left.

Just had a basket 8 chasing a doe around. Only seemed like a yearling doe so she probably wasn’t ready. Also seen a big fork so far.

If you knew how hard he hunted this week, anything would be a trophy. He still has his buck tag. 🤞

Well the recent snow and rain brought the snake river up and our land is now completely under water.
This is the worst year I’ve had since I can remember. Changing to a unknown land today and hoping for the best sad

I hunted for 6 days. I have to say that this season was the wackiest weather I’ve ever seen during a season. It was 64 and warm and then super windy and then down pouring rain and then heavy snow and then bitter cold. Virtually every possible weather pattern possible packed into 6 days of hunting.

It was good for deer activity, better than average. I saw deer every day I went except one including several bucks. I also saw 2 black bears, grouse, 18 hen turkeys, pheasants, and a pine marten chasing squirrels. Bagged a nice 8 pointer on Wed morning in the fresh snow. Will post photos later. My Father shot a corn fed doe on Thursday so I gave the big old leathery rutted up buck away and we’re gonna split up the doe.

Was doing some scouting on a chunk we never go in. Found what I believe is a wolf kill. One of my young bucks I was exciting about seeing next year. At first I thought it died fighting another buck but there is like 40 yards of blood spray. I took a snap chat video of the site but not sure how I would post that. Found lots of wolf tracks in the area.
