Our annual post. Please post live updates and pictures from the stand. Adding in a general area and state is nice to figure out deer movements.

Good luck, lots of people out at the public land by my house. I’ll probably wait until tomorrow or during the week. Always look forward to this post!

Got pushed out early by some squirrel hunters. Took some shots 40 yards from me. Figured that was a good time to pack up haha. Tonight will be better. Ill be a lot deeper in so I wont have to worry about that.

What a beautiful afternoon for the first sit of the season. I took the boat out this afternoon to access some hard to get to public land. Im sitting next to a swamp in the river bottoms with a major ditch crossing right behind me. Figured I better take advantage of a good breeze to keep the mosquitos away. Let the week in the stand begin!

People actually go to the woods and hunt squirrels? Aren’t these the same abundant bird seed stealing vermin in everyone’s back yard?

Saw 12 does and fawns this morning. Had easy shots on several but not interested yet. Didn’t get back out today. Maybe tomorrow evening. We’ll see how bad the wind is.

Had a good hunt last night. Got eyes on a real nice ten pointer that just stood and waited in a swamp by me tell almost closing time to move. Hopefully with this same wind I can setup on him.

The river bottoms were a bust last night despite great sign. Sitting in a pocket of oaks at the top of a draw tonight, with mostly yellow beans to my left, and a pond a couple hundred yards in front of me.

Don’t let the pic fool you, the tree is rocking pretty good. Definitely a night I’m glad I wear a safety harness!

Just had the first 9 deer move through just as planned including this fawn that hung out right below me for a good 5 mins. All does and fawns so far.

Reception was to poor to post tonight. I was in a swamp with some pine groves. Only one doe. Spooked some while leaving.

Saw a buck hopefully a different one because it was much smaller than what i thought i saw the hunt before… he went into the swamp away from me. But had a good doe come in at 15 yards to hammer some acorns. Woulda taken her but i was in a hunters choice unit and didnt want to use my either sex tag just yet.

I decided to make the long walk back into where I was last night after seeing two shooters. In total I saw 5 bucks last night all well before dark. Now I just need the squirel hunters to show up, and push the hill side to me!

I have a Lone Wolf Assault and a Xop thats basically one size up from that. I run both with 3 lone wolf sticks, 4 for couple spots. For the longer hikes I carry it on my Mystery Ranch pack. The pack makes the combo easy to carry, but one of these days I’m going to bite the bullet and buy a saddle. It sure seems like that would be the way to go.

Someone said SADDLE????? haha thats the way I am hunting now. I do only carry two xop sticks with me so I am pretty low probably 10-13ft max. I would say you wont regret it at all. But I didnt hunt out of stands a long time before I switched so YMMV.

Went to one of the farms tonight to avoid a long walk in the heat. Sitting on a pond tonight with scattered apple trees all around it. Not an ideal stand spot, but this is one of my only options with a southerly wind.

My buddy hunted a spot I pointed out to him not too far away from me last night and he ended up putting a good shot on a nice 8 pointer. He only went about 80yards into the swamp. man that was a long drag out of there.

I bet, and the hot temps aren’t helping that cause either! Dragging a deer in November when its 30 degrees out sucks, doing it when its 65 has to be unbearable.

Yeah it wasnt a great time but well worth it for the buck no doubt. The track job was pretty easy just had to walk super slow in the swamp to stay safe. He knows he owes me one now though.

Well, I’m up against a tree….. Went with the ground blind this morning.
Duck hunters are absolutely shooting the lights out. Never heard so many shots.
