Got out and made a few casts this morning and hooked up with a nice river smallie. First bass of 2020 for me.

Nice fish.
Figures I have the day off on the coldest of the week.

I figured he’d let me know I wasn’t the first guy to catch one open water in 2020. I think he’s more saltwater now though…..
January 18, 2020 at 7:55 am #1907213Here I am. That is not only the first fish, but a solid fish. Congratulations!
I have to say I admire someone who can go out in that weather and bag a bass. I couldn’t do it because of my hand circulation.
I tried the neighborhood pond about a month ago and it’s just too hard to fish and unsafe.
I’ll try and be first in 2021

Don’t forget to post some pics this winter… I need to live vicariously through you. We were supposed to be in FLA again all January but my wife got sick with a bad tick-born disease in August and due to the long recovery we had to cancel.
January 21, 2020 at 7:17 pm #1908543The jerkbait was working well last week. Two days and multiple nice fish.

Rock bass are the true Rodney Dangerfield of the bass family, even more so than Whities…
There is a very skilled guide on these forums (@joescegura) who told me recently that rock bass are a flaky, white meat delicacy. Ok… Sally and I plan to try some next time we’re up North and will report back

FryDog62Posts: 3696May 18, 2020 at 7:48 am #1943131My old man kept asking me to take him fishing so I finally agreed on Saturday for a few hours. Drove separate and he stayed in the back of the boat (he’s 67 and has stents from cardiac issues). It was quite a morning with that low pressure system coming in. He landed a 20 and 19 incher, 10 minutes apart. The 20 incher is the biggest bass he’s caught in about 4-5 years he said. In total we landed 17 in about 3.5 hours, mostly on a shallow crayfish colored slow moving crank bait.

Edit: don’t know why the image is sideways and ended up with double pics trying to fix it, oh well

June 1, 2020 at 8:09 am #1946293This will likely be the biggest largemouth I catch all season. 20 inch prespawn that weighed 5.21 pounds.
