Got out and made a few casts this morning and hooked up with a nice river smallie. First bass of 2020 for me.

I figured he’d let me know I wasn’t the first guy to catch one open water in 2020. I think he’s more saltwater now though…..

Here I am. That is not only the first fish, but a solid fish. Congratulations!

I have to say I admire someone who can go out in that weather and bag a bass. I couldn’t do it because of my hand circulation.

I tried the neighborhood pond about a month ago and it’s just too hard to fish and unsafe.

I’ll try and be first in 2021 )

Don’t forget to post some pics this winter… I need to live vicariously through you. We were supposed to be in FLA again all January but my wife got sick with a bad tick-born disease in August and due to the long recovery we had to cancel.

The jerkbait was working well last week. Two days and multiple nice fish.

Thought I would contribute something to this year’s bass photos – even if it is “the other white meat.”

Rock bass are the true Rodney Dangerfield of the bass family, even more so than Whities…

There is a very skilled guide on these forums (@joescegura) who told me recently that rock bass are a flaky, white meat delicacy. Ok… Sally and I plan to try some next time we’re up North and will report back waytogo

Caught a few the other day while crappie fishing on White Bear. The bass a are always so clean and healthy in this lake. This little one pounder caught my eye for some reason.

My old man kept asking me to take him fishing so I finally agreed on Saturday for a few hours. Drove separate and he stayed in the back of the boat (he’s 67 and has stents from cardiac issues). It was quite a morning with that low pressure system coming in. He landed a 20 and 19 incher, 10 minutes apart. The 20 incher is the biggest bass he’s caught in about 4-5 years he said. In total we landed 17 in about 3.5 hours, mostly on a shallow crayfish colored slow moving crank bait.

My 5 year old caught this one yesterday, but had to have her big sister hold it because it was too heavy for her.

Edit: don’t know why the image is sideways and ended up with double pics trying to fix it, oh well

This will likely be the biggest largemouth I catch all season. 20 inch prespawn that weighed 5.21 pounds.
