It’s September, waterfowl Opener is less than 3 weeks away! Does anyone have any waterfowl reports or information to share? Saw a few nice flocks this weekend up north.

Lots of birds. The last few years has been incredible opening weekend. Tons of teal and woodies with mallards to be had. I expect our 15 man crew to limit on Saturday and have our traditional duck feast.
September 3, 2019 at 11:25 am #1877041Most of the ducks will be spooked away by youth waterfowl day which has now been expanded to youth water “weekend.”

True. I’ve only shot a handful of ducks after opening day of the regular waterfowl season! Same goes in WI with a 9 day teal season and a youth *gasp* weekend to follow before the regular season begins.
Seeing lots of woodies on the river, with a few Mallards and Teal mixed it. Heading to our traditional opener location in Western MN again this year. After that, I will spend most of my time hunting the WI/MN backwaters until Early-Mid November and the Diver lines will be brought out.
September 3, 2019 at 1:20 pm #1877059Saw quite a few bigger flocks of geese and ducks up by Nevis this weekend.

Get over it already. I have no issues shooting birds all season. Maybe it’s you….

DTMy thoughts exactly. The nice thing about waterfowl is that they, ugh…*cough* MIGRATE. There will be more birds. The change from a youth waterfowl DAY to a youth waterfowl WEEKEND is not going to devastate the duck population.
I know that when my little one(s) are old enough I will be taking full advantage of youth waterfowl weekend to be able to focus solely on them.
September 3, 2019 at 2:06 pm #1877074We hunt the same lake in West Central MN every weekend all year until ice up. It has a public access (although we access it via private property). Most years no one else ever hunts it. We have it all to ourselves. We take two kids out every youth day and opening weekend is always good. The second weekend can be ‘meh’ but usually the migration starts and NEW birds come down.
Birds fly and fish swim. Go find them or take up a different hobby.September 3, 2019 at 2:09 pm #1877075To give a report, seeing lots of ducks this year in West Central MN. Should be good early and looking like an early, cold fall so migrators should arrive soon after. Really looking forward to this year.
Walleye HungryPosts: 355September 3, 2019 at 4:37 pm #1877093I just wish opener was the 28th
I could get behind that if the split stayed the same in the south and pushed the season another week into December…some of the best divers don’t hit the south zone until after the season closes…
deertrackerPosts: 9163September 8, 2019 at 6:45 am #1877979I’m having BK pin this thread to the top. Please post migration updates and live pics from the blind during the season. It’s fun to look back at these threads after the season.
DTAndrew PanschPosts: 107September 13, 2019 at 6:12 pm #1879054Was out and about today and of course saw plenty of birds. All of the water flooding fields will make it tough but also offers new opportunities.
MNdrifterPosts: 1671September 15, 2019 at 5:26 pm #1879219Going to have to work super hard this week between work/kids football practice to finish this blind. 100 yards from my bed. Momma won’t be sleeping in on weekends any more!

That will be sweet. Increases comfort so much hunting from a nice permanent blind. Wish I had that option!
September 16, 2019 at 7:11 am #1879281Sweet blind Drifter!! We worked on ours over the weekend also. Dad is 82 years old and just ruptured his achilles tendon, so we had to make it wheel chair accessible. Quite a few birds moving around as we were working it. Next Saturday should be fun!!
September 16, 2019 at 9:24 am #1879310I already have the ice house packed up and ready to head west! Should be another great opener. Chance of rain Saturday morning, let’s hope it isn’t anything like a couple years ago…
September 16, 2019 at 10:29 am #1879334I am picking up a camper on Wednesday and we are heading west also on Friday. Going with my uncle and a buddy, looking forward to it.
September 16, 2019 at 1:47 pm #1879400You guys don’t bother, nothing is getting thru the steel curtain in Fergus
Andrew PanschPosts: 107September 16, 2019 at 6:18 pm #1879444Be sure to check flooded fields for ducks… with all the water out west there’s plenty of beans and some corn flooded. Good luck and do your scouting.
September 20, 2019 at 9:50 am #1880190Leaving in 2 hours. Getting pumped now.
Good luck to you guys – will post a report when we get back….
MNdrifterPosts: 1671September 20, 2019 at 2:02 pm #1880264Weather report doesn’t look too good tomorrow A.M. At least I ain’t too far from the garage if it lets loose. Finished the blind!

MNdrifterPosts: 1671September 21, 2019 at 1:52 pm #1880369Cloquet area. Managed 5 ringers, a woodie, and a goose on a 15-ish acre neighbor’s private pond. Opted to hunt that rather than fight the rat race on the rice lakes in the area and it worked out just fine! Definitely a good start to duck season

September 21, 2019 at 2:09 pm #1880371Our small group was out for about 45 minutes. Then the storms rolled and put on quite a lightning show with some intense downpours. We were off the water just before the nasty stuff hit. Managed 6 ducks before we had to call it.
September 21, 2019 at 2:18 pm #1880372My group got 4 ducks and a goose. I expected better to be honest with the ideal conditions. Not sure what to do with the goose. They really aren’t edible…
September 21, 2019 at 3:36 pm #1880377Breast it out. Teriyaki Marinated goose kabobs on the grill are fabulous
September 21, 2019 at 6:15 pm #18803853 of us braved the rain for 2 hours and got 8 teal and 4 woodies.
