2019 Unofficial IDO Deer Contest

Is there any interest in doing the contest again this year? Numbers have been lacking the last few years so a team tourney won’t be possible I believe. This year will be an individual contest. Entry is a $15 Fleet Farm gift card. You can go on the Fleet Farm web site and have it delivered right to me from their site or mail it to my residence. If you enter, make sure you message me your real name so I can get you marked down.

    Cards can be mailed to:
    James Ross
    1607 6th Avenue East #207
    Alexandria, MN 56308

Here are the rules for this years Contest:

    1) All entries must be submitted with a photograph to this thread. Please list what state the deer was taken in.

    2) Any legal weapon may be used during their set season depending upon states hunted.

    3) Any buck harvested by YOURSELF is allowed to be entered into the contest. If you shoot a buck enter it, if you happen to shoot a higher scoring buck for the contest enter that too and the higher scoring buck will be the one counted and added to your team score. Still only one buck counts towards your score, but I’m allowing people to enter multiple bucks if they end up shooting a larger one or hunt multiple states.

    4) 1 doe is allowed to be entered per hunter.

    5) Points will be awarded for each harvest as follows:

    -1 doe- 5 points each.

-Any legal Bucks are worth an automatic 10 points plus 1 additional point for each tine 1 inch or longer. Please also post the measurement of the longest tine rounded up to the nearest inch. New for this year I will be adding the outside spread roundest up to the nearest inch.

    6) This contest is for whitetail only. I have allowed Mule deer in the past but since this is a single hunter contest with tine length as a measurement it wouldn’t be fair to allow Mule deer.

    7) 100% of the buy-ins go to the winner.

***Deadline to enter the contest is 10/01/2019.

**Deadline for Deer entries is February 1st 2020**

I’ll do again, been on a pretty good streak all three years I’ve done it so wouldn’t want to open the door for any bad juju by not.

Do you have enough people? I could throw in a late entry if you need more people.

We really can do it with as many or as few as we want. The deadline actually isn’t until 10/01 so we are good. My son and I will be in as well. The more the merrier.

This guy isn’t a monster and isn’t real wide, but he’s got a lot of points to add to my score. Do I take a 3 year old just to score high in the contest or hold off for a giant?

Good luck to everyone out there during Rut and for you bow hunters I hope you get your hitlist buck before the orange army comes out.

However as an orange armier…I really actually hope you don’t )

I had some luck in the CWD zone. I went out to go for some does and he came cruising through. Never did see a doe. Longest tine was 9 inches, inside was 16 inches and 9 points.

I did shoot one yearling doe with my long bow a few weeks ago and forgot to get a picture but added what I have (a carcass pic). Did a smoked tomohawk roast with her and it turned out great!

I will have to take measurements on him next weekend, he is at my in laws awaiting processing and for his ‘all clear’ from the CWD test right now. Nice heavy 8 point, my second best MN deer.

Was about 90 yards give or take, 300 grain XTP from my CVA destroyed his heart. You could have followed the bloodtrail blindfolded, surprisingly he went uphill for about 50 yards and then down the other side about another 25 before oiling up under a deadfall.

Took some measurements, 15.5″ spread, G2’s on both side are just shy of 8″ for the long tines.

    Check us out!

OK I lied! And it paid off. I am underserving and so lucky to harvest a deer like this.

“Hell boy” as he was known was just a 3.5 year old, prelim score is ~165 mass. I can almost assure you I will never shoot a bigger one lol.

Lets call it 14 points, may be 15 but I won’t know till it gets scored. 17.5″ Spread and 10″ longest tine. Sticker1 can confirm these numbers as the deer is hanging in his barn! Thanks Sticker!

Didn’t think I would have a chance to win this so I might have to get out the muzzy and take a doe!

After further examination, both points on the brow came in at 7/8″ from the B & C scorer. So my final numbers are as follows:
13 points, 19.875″ spread, and 9.5″ longest tine.

DT is asking for your outside spread which I think was close to 20″ not the inside spread you listed at 17″.

Your honesty after getting it scored is commendable bow bow bow

I went outside spread because I thought it would be easier for people to measure that don’t measure deer often. Nice buck. Congrats. Guess I should put my monster in the ring. hah
