My son’s deer had a previous injury that was interesting. There is a hole in the hind quarters near the top. It was about 2 inches deep and rotten around the edges. I hope the hind quarter on that side isn’t wrecked.

My buck had a wound right by his anie, from the side going back. The age is consistent with the youth hunt period since we have had no other firearms seasons prior to this. I got lucky and lost maybe a half pound of meat.

I tagged out tonight with a nice doe.

My youngest shot one this morning. Really good blood. Tracked it across the river and ended up jumping it. Ended up marking lat blood on my GPS and backed out. Frustrating. Not sure what the right side looks like, it may be broken but the left side is big. Can’t decide if I’m giving it a few hours or the rest of the Day and look in the morning. I know of I jump it again it’s gone.

Didn’t see any deer this morning, but I did watch another bowhunter walk through the swamp grass. He later walked 20yds from my tree when I gave him a wave. “Was that you rattling?” “Yep” I said. “Was that you that grunt snorted?” I asked. “Yep, thought it sounded too good to be true!” We both got a laugh outta that one rotflol

Day 9. Who else is still out trying to get it done? I’m sitting until 930 or so and then going to look for my son’s buck. We lost all of our snow and itrsined last night so no more blood trail. Going to use my GPS and do a grid search.

I’m still trying! On my 9th straight day. Small bucks and does. Not a lot of deer sign around. Wonder if the last few winters took there toll.

    Last sit of the year.

Well…that’s a wrap. Tough year but still enjoyable. Can’t wait to get home and rack leaves.

    Good luck everyone!

Tell those boys congrats on their kills.

I hunted with the nephew this morning and shot a doe for him. Long shot, steep downhill, maybe 140 yards with the .50 cal Accura. Off-hand. She went maybe 25 yards and piled up. Double lung hit. He stuck it out, but I came in after he no longer needed help loading his critter.

Was a good season. I saw a ton of deer and more bucks than I ever have in nine days. I saw one 6 and two small forkies, all other bucks were shooters. I saw one twelve on Tuesday that was perhaps the biggest and best racked head I have ever seen in the wild….at less than twenty-five feet walking and my tag on a buck already. This guy was absolutely massive in all respects. He passed right behind me real late in the day as the set was sinking very low and the shadow of his head looked like a picket fence passing on the tree in front of me. As I slowly turned I could hear him breathing. What a thrill seeing him like this was.

I’m not hunting tonight. Have 3 deer to butcher but I’ll be back for the muzzy season.

I went for 7 days straight. Monday and Tuesday were raw 20 feet up in an open air stand in single digit temps. All the deer I saw were either does/fawns or bucks that were too small. My old man got a decent buck so at least I’ll snag some venison from him. The quantity of pheasants I saw was absurd. I saw at least 40 every day. It’s a bird mecca out there. I look forward to some fantastic pheasant hunting now.

Way to stick it out in the elements guys. I’m fortunate that we have 9 enclosed stands for rifle and muzzy. I’ll sit outside in some nasty weather for bow but usually not for rifle and muzzy season.

Change of scenery from the ground blind this morning; a different property and two inches of snow. Did rattle in a nice buck at 30yds. That made my morning waytogo

I, and my group, got our butt kicked this weekend. Hunted Thursday thru Sunday morning on a private 80 acres in the Wabasha area and between the 4-6 of us that hunted we saw 6 deer total, all of them small except one nice buck at first light. Really weird as this land usually holds a ton of deer, and seeing 6 deer per sit was not uncommon. Not sure what was so different this year, as we still saw a ton of deer on neighboring land, but next to nothing on ours. Guess that’s hunting, and I’ll be out hopefully a few more times to fill my bow tag.

Opening day gun season in Wisconsin. Brother got a small buck this morning. Lots of shooting in the area, and we did some deer drives. Never seen so many small does and fawns, and only one small buck out of 20 deer we saw. Oh well, I even got some shooting in-had some shells that have been in my pack a few seasons grin

Beautiful night indeed! Two fawns and a nice buck chasing a doe across the field, at a dead sprint, finished out the night. I plan to be back out in the morning.

Completely dead in central MN north of Ogilvie the past two weekends since opener. Not even any tracks with the fresh snow. I did see a bear track though, which was neat. Seems a bit late for them.

Not live but yesterday I spent my first day gun hunting in WI. I did a hang and hunt on a new piece of property and saw zero deer for 10 hrs but finally had 2 come in at 4:30. I Could hear them coming thru the brush behind me and first a small fawn walked out. I was expecting another fawn or even a doe but I was very surprised when this guy came walking out about 10 yds behind the fawn.

Congrats Will, this will be my first “Live from the Tree” report as reception has never been the best 5 or so miles southwest of Baltus Rd. I’d throw up a pic right now, but that would never get out, so I’ll leave it at this, been very very quiet, for as many trail cam pics as I got the last 6 and even just 3 weeks!!! Lots of different bucks too!!! More later

Surprisingly he only weighed 180 lbs. I guessing he lost quite a bit of weight during rut as I’ve read that they can lose as much as 20-30% of their body weight during November.

Had to sneak out before the storm. It’s a pretty wild ride in the stand tonight!

On the ground this afternoon on the edge of a recently picked corn field. There was probably 25 deer in this pocket of the field last night on the walk out. Hopefully they do the same thing tonight!
