    Nice work and congrats Perch!

No deer yet on day 2 but can confirm my gun shoots straight!

Saw 6 does, 4 fawns, a spike, and a young 6 pt yesterday.

Wishing the tree would not have been there. One inch left or right and I would have a picture of the nicest buck of my life .

Have a good show through the binos. 4 bald eagles have muscled their way into my buddies gut pile about 1200 yards out. Saw a spike at 0950 but that’s it for me so far.

    Nice buck Tom!
Will, how many yotes does it take to make a comforter? I kinda wish I’d see a few. Lots of pics of em.
Been a pretty active day. Lots of small bucks this morning searching. 2 different 8s following does. The occasional Fawn. Hoping Studly do right pops out here soon!
Squirrels and Grouse populations are up around me.

I have the management tag yet, but the cold air coming tonight will keep me off the hill until Weds maybe.

The wind did a 180 on us and was coming in hard from the north this morning with some scattered flurries. The nephew saw one 8 point and I saw one runt. Very little shooting this morning, maybe six shots between 7 and 7:45, then it was just the wind noise. I was sitting in a small pine thicket and that wind made some beautiful sounds whooshing thru there.

I’d like to collect a decent doe to supplement my sausage meat from the deer shown. I figure I need 61 pounds of clean trim to get my 25 pounds of jerky, a 25 batch each of summer sausage and ring bologna. I’ve been buying pork shoulders cheap and when the venison gets all wrapped up I’ll swing right into out breakfast sausages and bratwurst, both of which are pure pork. The smoker will be working soon.

I redeemed myself this afternoon. This deer was standing within 15′ of where the one I missed was yesterday. Pretty much confirms that I hit some twig or something yesterday in my mind. If I was one to eat deer heart I would have been disappointed.

Tough track job. I find it ironic that the deer to run the farthest that I’ve shot with the CVA so far is the one I center punched the heart on. Ran right around 75 yards, uphill part of the way too.

Well the good news is I made it around the tree tonight, the bad news is grandpa is still running wild . To cold to wait around to see if he shows back up , I’ve got fishing to get too.

That one will cost you some $$$ Jackfish. lol Beautiful rack on the deer. Symmetrical, long tined and tall. Got some heft at the bases too. Congrats to the boy.

Two years ago I shot a ten point that was slightly smaller in body size than this one but had the real wide spread with shorts times just like this one. Not a huge head, not a huge body but its going to make some super good sausage, jerky and bologna. I’m still looking for a baldy to supplement the meat and maybe make some sticks later on.

Not much to report from north central Minnesota. Lots of does and yearlings with a couple spikes and buttons slightly pushing does. Not very typical for our neck of the woods, usually the 10th is full swing rut but i didn’t see that this weekend. Yet to come or passed already is the question. I haven’t been out before this past weekend for 3 weeks so hard to gauge. Anyone area care to share where they think the rut is at for their area? im always curious how the state can be vastly different

The bucks where chasing around me this weekend, but all small young deer. Guessing the big guys where holed up with a hot momma somewhere.

It appeared to be full swing where I’m at in the SE near Rochester.

Central Todd county. I’ve been out alot for weeks watching the rut develop. She’s full tilt right now. Saw lots of pushing, lots of chasing, and lots of searching the last couple days. Almost every buck with its nose to the ground. 5 bucks on one doe, 2 on another….. Big guys are likely nestled down with their first or second honey. Sometimes your smaller groves, swamps, or small clumps of heaviest cover is where they’re hiding their doe.
Had things to attend to today, but I’ll be out tomorrow.

What a “crisp” morning. -2. I know it’s colder north. Seen Embarrass was -10 or so. No movement yet. I’m thinking they’re all a little stiff….

I usually spend all day on my climber, with the bow, 4 hours max yesterday, I gave up, must be getting old, man was that wind cold.
