Hey all just got the new skeeter out on the water for the 2nd time and am trying different props. FOund some old posts, but am hoping for some newwer data/insight. You should know first i am at elevation 5,000ft!

I have the 300 Yamaha and have motor moved from 3rd hole from factory all way to last hole. Heres the deal no matter what prop I am only getting 50.5-51mph no matter what prop!

I have the best luck with a relliance 14″ 18p 3 blade (4.5 sec holeshot, and 5900 RPM and 51mph.
Tried Some merc props I have noticed they have a TON of vibration/roughness below 2,000 RPM, this normal?
the Rev 4 15″ 19P partial plugs ran about 6.5 sec hole, and 50.3mph. Tried enertia cant recall diameter but it was a 19p and had same as relliance so now point putting up with vibration at low RPM. Tempest 15″ 19P was a bit sluggish out of hole and ran 50.3MPH but has some pretty good loift running.

I also notice that at elevation there is a sluggish/cutout in holeshot, that we have knocked down with a resistor in place, but wondering if this is an affect on top end?
This crazy the only things changing with all the props is the holeshot times! PLEASE ADVISE

Hi, I’m located in Saskatchewan. Elevation here is 1870 above sea level. I have a 2013 wx2190 with a Yamaha 300 4 stroke, 9.9 kicker. I think it was the first year this boat came out. I have the factory Saltwater prop that came with the boat. I think its a 20 or 21 pitch, 3 blade. I have a hydralic jackplate installed at the factory. with my jackplate setting at 11, I have no problem taking off( a little slower) and I can move up the motor to 15 and cruise. Loaded with 2,3 or 4 including myself I have no problem running 57mph and that include all the tackle and a full tank of fuel. One guy plus myself, tackle and a full tank, I can run 57-60mph. With jus myself, no tackle and full tank of fuel I can run around 60-63mph. I have tride the tempest 4 blade 23 pitch and saw that the boat was more loose in the steering and did not gain any perforancve at all. I also have a Tempest 3 blade that I am going to try this coming year. My friend has the exact same boat but with Merc Racing 300 pro xs. His top speed is 52-54 no matter what elevation he goes. i have had mine to Fort Peck and elevation there is 2067 above sea level. My top speed stayed the same. I have noticed that the 2013 wx seems like the fastest boat compared to the later models with the same engine. Another friend of mine bought a 2016 Skeeter wx 2190 with a Yamaha 300 4 stroke and he had it beside mine and his top speed was 53-54 mph with a aftermarket prop. He had the factory prop and his top speed was around the 51-52mph. I’m thinking that the elevation you are at has a lot to do with the top end speed.

    Mitch,

I have a 2015 2190 with a 300 Yamaha on a jackplate, 9.9 kicker and my batteries have been moved back under the jump seats. Just ran a new Mercury Bravo LT 19 pitch prop on my trip to Erie. I did not time the hole shot. 3 guys, full load and gas, full live well. RPM was 5700 and ran 54 mph. Hole shot was was really good. The entire boat comes up, instead of just bow lift. I was able to stay on plane in 3 footers at about 16 mph. Had the vent holes plugged, but have the vent kit and will play with the plugs. Hole shot should improve.

Best 2 props I have run on the boat are the new Bravo LT 19 pitch and the Yamaha 18 pitch saltwater for what I am looking for. Better control at slower speeds and out of the hole. I like the Bravo for the type of hole shot without the bow rise.

Side note, it has taken me 3 years to figure out how to drive the 2190. The hull is different than my Rangers were. I start with the motor all the way down and then as soon as I am up I raise the jackplate to about 10/11 and then drive the trim tabs down all the way. It allows for a much better ride in waves. Was leaving the motor buried in the rough stuff and the bow was all over the place.

Mitch, great talking with you recently. IMO, best opportunity for good overall performance, not necessarily top end, is #1 a 19 Bravo LT, then #2 a 19 Rev 4 like you tried and then like we talked about. A Trophy Plus 19 has done well for me. I need to make a trip to Glendo soon and I’ll let you know when I’m there. We can pull my 20 Bravo LT off for you to try, but, IMO, is too much prop for this motor at this elevation (wish I had a 19 but ended up with a good deal for this 20). As discussed in this post and others, the Bravo LT offers better handling than any prop I tried, which was a lot. I have a 19 Trophy Plus you’re welcome to try. Having run my boat at low elevation and our elevation, these Yamaha Offshores are different beasts at our elevation for sure. No doubt in my mind they’re setup for sea level running and there isn’t much we can do.

Mitch, meant to add: Did you feel like your teeth were chattering when you put the Rev 4 in reverse? That’s when I really noticed it.
