    Hey Guys,

I just picked up a very low hours 2018 1775 Impact XS with a 115hp Etec HO and did not get an owners manual for the Etec. I have searched a bit on line for the correct oil to use and there two oils recommended one with a 50 number and one with a 100 number but it notes the engine must be programmed correctly to use the 100 numbered oil. Can anyone give me some insight on this?

You’re talking of XD50 and XD100 oils. I think they were generally setup to run XD100–I know ours came from the dealer like that. That’s a question you’d need to have answered by a dealer.

Agree it’s XD50 or XD100 the dealer would have programmmed one or the other. I would find out as you do not want to use the wrong one.

Chances are very good that the motor was set up for the XD100 oil. If you choose to use the XD50, you’d have to have the dealer program it. If you stick to the 100, no further action would be required.

I can only tell you want I was told several years ago when I had my first e-tec 2008 225HO. I read about the ECM being programmed to run the XD100 oil to run at 100:1. I went to the dealer and said I would like to program mine to run on the XD100. If memory serves I was told that the larger HO motors all ran at 50:1 and that they either were told not to change the ratio or they couldn’t. Things may have changed on the newer motors, but you may want to ask a good certified Evinrude mechanic before you let anyone change it for you. I was told XD100 was required in temps colder than 40 degrees, other wise XD50 was fine. I always ran XD100 and with two motors and 900 hours I never had an issue other than one injector sticking open that had to be replaced.
