Shorefished a “secret” spot on the Mississippi last Friday and had a great day hooking up with some fat footballs!

December 27th headed out with the boy and one of his buddies in the rainy/snow/sleet and found a few. Just doing a little pre fishing to the first bass of 2019.

Going through these pictures makes me miss the ponds, although with all the changes I didn’t get to fish it much in 2018.

How far would you have to drive to get to some decent ones other than the two you showed us Pug? There’s got to be some relatively close to you?

The ponds I posted above are a block away.

As for lakes, I haven’t investigated freshwater much. There is lake manatee which is close, I believe it is more of a crappie lake though. The next closest might be the phosphorus pits over an hour away. The closest well known big bass lake is lake tarpon an hour away. Got no boat, not sure if there are rentals on lake Tarpon.

Having salt flats and bridges ti fish 5 minutes away doesn’t help.

Yeah that would be hard. You get tarpon around those bridges? Always wanted to catch a tarpon…..

Not the bridges I fish. I don’t know a lot about tarpon fishing around here other than in Spring late March-May they fish for them at the mouth of bay, inlets and the beaches.

Tarpon have been on my bucket list since I was a kid. I don’t even care if I catch juvenile. The juveniles should be around here in creeks and salt marsh areas. I don’t here about people fishing for them on the deeper flats in and around the bay the rest of the year. The adults are definitely gone south with the fall mullet run.

When I was on the east coast I’d fish Merrit Island and I know there are juveniles in the creeks and ditches around there. I just can’t find that type of habitat around here. Sucks. I’ll be happy when I finally catch one.
