That’s awesome! Nice fish also!
Got this toad bobberin on the Big Pond for walleye. 21.5″
Hooked into this 4.9 lb largemouth tying my best for 2018. Came on a Structure Bug casting into laydowns. The shallow bite is definitely hot after all the rains. It was an awesome morning!
Very nice! Yes, lots of flooded timber to pitch into right now… great fish
Back in June at my hideaway at Mille Lacs after spending the afternoon sipping beer on the deck, I made the prudent decision not to run my boat out the to flats and stumbled my way out on to the dock instead (not over my head)…
I knew right away it was no walleye. Ugly fish, but an uglier old man…
Got this 4.2 lber on a frog 20 minutes before weigh in yesterday during a tournament on Green Lake. Definitely a fun fight.

Is that green in chisago? I’ll leave this here….20” smallie.
I’ve done this a few times this season. Well before first light, top waters with the 8 weight fly rod. I just love it, the casting, hearing the crash out in the darkness, the fight with a heavy fish in heavy cover.

Well you do make some adjustments. I don’t try and fish as close to objects like docks or lily pads. You don’t really have to and you’re less likely to get snagged up. The biggest thing is to slow down. Slow everything down. You don’t need to cast 85 feet if it’s dark and if you’re being reasonably quiet you can get pretty close to feeding fish. Just slow down, make easy short casts, and fish slowly.
I love it in the early mornings. It’s quiet, there’s are fewer people around, and I like watching the lake wake up.

Yeah Green in Chisago.
Caught this 4 lb bass from Kansas City back in June this year
2nd picture is same bridge same hat and same day but a year apart and a big ol smallie and all fish caught from the bank
Had a great weekend duck hunting and smallmouth fishing. We had 2 triples and 2 doubles. Caught around 50 smallmouth in 10 hours of fishing. Average was 3 to 4 pounds.
A couple short but chunky metro bass. Starting to find them on shallow weed flats near deep water. Water temps just starting to creep into the 50s. They definitely are starting to pack on the weight.
Water temps at the ramp this morning were 49 – argh
That’s quite a drop in a short period of time a hope there’s some more days of these ahead…
A few 19 and 20 inch smallmouth left in the rivers. Water temps 44.
Probably last time on the river this year, but a blast to finally get out with my long time buddy JW. Guy has forgotten more about fishing than I’ll ever know… we’ll do it again sometime soon!
That’s a wrap for this year… Like the Twins say every Fall – “And we’ll see ya in Fort Myers..!”
Nice ones frydog! I think this was my last bass trip on the boat this year as well. The lake bite has been tough so I hit the St Croix. Man river smallies are fun!
