Well, after providing proof and evidence of 8 or so guys with similar welded windshield boats that have similar units that are all performing great- they are now sending me a blue tooth top unit/remote to try this week. Soooo, we’ll see. Crossing my fingers, I want this to work just as bad if not more than they do. And if it doesn’t- I’ll PM you with the really good deal price. Like I said- everything else is performing great except the communication to remote. Stay tuned.

I cannot understand why they have not simply given you a different motor to try to cut the troubleshooting in half. If it fixes your issue, it is the motor, if it does not, then it is the boat (or something in it). Basic troubleshooting 101.
Better yet, take the tech to a nearby waterway and ask him/her to use it.
Crappy FishermanPosts: 333April 11, 2017 at 5:03 pm #1687822I think they should recall all pre 2017 Terrovas and Ulterras.
I had a 2015 Ulterra that the spot lock never worked from the get go. Ended up a $500.00 loss but the new 2017 Ulterra works perfect so far.April 11, 2017 at 9:02 pm #1687864Well, after providing proof and evidence of 8 or so guys with similar welded windshield boats that have similar units that are all performing great- they are now sending me a blue tooth top unit/remote to try this week. Ok Pete, after all this I think it has become obvious. The problem is not with the Minnkota, the problem is your boat. Your boat is wonky somehow, you should be revisiting the boat dealer and have them explain and fix the problem…
April 11, 2017 at 9:50 pm #1687872I think Andy might be on to something here. Have you consider buying a quarts crystal for your boat? It will absorb all the negative energy, then you just drop the crystal in someone else’s boat.
April 24, 2017 at 8:52 am #1690123After I called BS on the latest excuse of interference with my windshield- MK sent me a Blue Tooth top and remote. I have been out a few times with it and it performs exactly how I had hoped and expected when buying the Ulterra 1.5 years ago. IMHO- they should swap out anyone who has performance issues with GEN 1 or 2 and provide the BT model. It shouldn’t take bringing it into warranty a half dozen times. You pay big money- it should perform as advertised.
April 24, 2017 at 1:39 pm #1690202That’s great to hear pete, I was looking at a used one myself since I have the older terrova ’13 with the good old spot lock issues which were noticed yesterday however it does gradually over-correct and never does it say on spot.
I think by unplugging my foot pedal did fix my remote turning off and losing spot lock. Another couple days will find if that is the true case.
April 24, 2017 at 1:41 pm #1690203Once MK makes a wireless BT foot peddle that goes with the ultera I would be game for that for the best of both worlds since I like fishing out of the back of the boat.

Glad it is working for you. They replaced mine with the Blue Tooth and it works as it’s supposed to. It’s a simple replacement, take the top off unplug it, plug the new one in and pair it. You do need the new remote. It cost me $500.00 to fix it but it works. The trolling motor was worthless as it was and I couldn’t sell it like that, not even to my ex wife.
June 19, 2017 at 10:29 pm #1699911I owned a 2 of the 1st gen MK Terrova and the spot lock worked perfect. Sold the second one to get the link and the spot lock was horrible and useless. Contacted MK was told it was “within spec” live with it.
This year when I called MK to see if it could now be updated to the 2017 Gen 3 model I was told no fix available and to sell it and buy new.
Now I’m not the guy that is going to sell a piece of s#&t to someone else. I did find a boat dealer that would take the pos in on trade for a new one. He knew the spot lock feature is terrible but he said he can sell the used Terrovas all day long. So gen 2 model is gone and have had the new Terrova out 4 times. Spot lock is perfect. It is better than the 1st gen model.Reef WPosts: 2830June 20, 2017 at 7:40 am #1699922I did find a boat dealer that would take the pos in on trade for a new one.
About how much did it end up costing you then? I have a 24V 60″ Terrova that’s only been used for a year but am interested in the better spot lock.
