OK this one came with a little excitement. With storms and rain nearby, I thought I’d see if the flip had switched up at the pond. About the third cast I got this one. While reeling it in there was a flash of lightning. Normally even cloud to cloud lighting terrifies me, but I was in the moment.

While unhooking her, some rumbles sort of snapped me out of it. I got her in the water and started walking home. As I walked under the high tension powerlifts, even though flashes were a ways off, they would sizzle. That spooked me…Then I realized I dropped my phone. I was now in panic mode.

I set the rod down and retraced my steps running. I was panicking more not spotting it even though I was 3/4 to where I started, but it was where I caught the fish. I grabbed it and high tailed it home.

    …Almost forgot.

    1st!

The pictures are starting to roll. Sadly I have no bass of consequence to show since the “first”. It should start picking up now though. Hopefully I can land a lady before she drops her eggs.

All you have to do this time of year is catch a 7 pounder full of spawn and you’ll hit the magic number of 8 pounds!!

    Nice fish Mike!

It’s funny, I was just thinking about you starting the bass thread.

I got a smallie through the ice in early February. Not as much fun as open water though!

Oh I don’t know. They jump pretty good on the ice too.

That’s a healthy looking bass there! Nice catch. It’s crazy how different they look up there.

The drought has made the pond fishing tough. I decided to size up my bait and try some trophy hunting these next couple months.

Got a 5″ Savage Gear Sunfish and a bigger Live Target swimmer.

With clods moving in this morning with hopefully some much needed rain, this surprising healthy looking 4.5lb bass absolutely inhaled the sunfish.

She bled pretty bad as a hook nicked her gills, but she swam off, so I am hoping she makes it.

On the river fishing today. Caught some nice smallies 16-19 inches… man those river fish are fun to catch. One nice 20 incher. Water temps were 62 degrees. Hard to tell if they were staging or actually spawning.

Fishing for some panfish yesterday and I pulled in this guy. It was quite a surprise since I was hoping it was a nice crappie! He didn’t surface and jump like bass often do.

Took my last antibiotic this morning after fighting an upper respiratory and Staph infection for the last almost 3 weeks. Lost 10 pounds and hadn’t been outside in what seems like forever. Great to be back on the water. Not a lot of fish today, but a couple very good ones including this 21 -1/4 bronzeback.
