Thank you to all of our friends, fans, sponsors, and family members that attended the 2016 IDOGTG at Trappers Landing on Leech Lake. The cold front moved in right as our event started, but that didn’t prevent anyone from catching fish or having a good time. Here are a few photos from our event, we hope you enjoy them and we will see you next year!

On site we had 49 guests on-site not counting the IDO sponsors or crew. We did have some off ice traffic as well to make the bar packed. It was a fun time. Got to meet a whole bunch of new people and make some new friends. Hopefully we can go it again.

My first tour of the Glacier Ice House Factory and fishing out ofI never really gave it a thought. Travel Trailers and motor homes have gone to either steel or aluminum construction. I was surprised to see a wooden frame in the ice house.
Just an observation..

Great observation Denny – a lot of this comes down to the actual use that a wheelhouse will get. Is the owner sticking to plowed roads, or are they venturing off the beaten path over rough ice and terrain? I believe that wood is still the most effective for our use here at IDO, its not as expensive as aluminum, it doesn’t sweat, etc etc. But aluminum and steel also have benefits too – I’m not sure there really is a right way or wrong way at this time. I am sure others in this forum could better inform me. I think Yetti and Firebrand do the aluminum construction, and most others are wood.
January 15, 2016 at 5:07 pm #1592869Here’s some brands I know of with differences in Aluminum, Steel/Wood, and Steel/Steel
Aluminum Brands (Wheel Houses):
Custom Cottages, Firebrand, Yetti, Elite Premium Fish Houses, and Ridgeline. I thought I was told Big Bite does both Steel and Aluminum.
Steel Brands Wood Framing (Wheel Houses):
Ice Castle, Lodge (not 100%), Big Bite, Glacier, and King Crow.
Steel with Steel Framing (Wheel Houses):
Ice Country (I believe it’s all galvanized too so rust won’t be an issue unless you keep the house for 60 plus years)
Interested to hear what other brands I’m missing. I know that there’s a long list of steel houses being manufactured but I listed popular one’s I know of.
January 15, 2016 at 8:36 pm #1592894I stand corrected, Ice Country has a galvanized steel frame and aluminum structure.
January 16, 2016 at 7:55 am #1592956One thing is for sure, it’s really nice to have a great place to stay on the lake. Everything just worked the way it should and we didn’t experience any trouble! Looking forward to spending the night in it again!
January 19, 2016 at 6:08 pm #1593913Thanks for putting together a great event Trappers and IDO!!! It was nice to put some names to faces, and my buddy won that sweet TUCR for big fish Saturday for the icing on the lake!
January 21, 2016 at 9:24 am #1594317Looks like a great time! I was in San Diego travelling for work, thinking about this trip and the bad timing.
More than anything I’m disappointed I missed out on seeing Will Rosebergs ever evolving facial hair
January 21, 2016 at 10:58 am #1594333Thanks for sharing, Nick. Great pictures! A lot of happy, windburned faces having a good time.

Nothing to be disappointed about Doug… My next facial hair adventure doesn’t start until the MN fishing opener.
November 18, 2019 at 8:19 pm #1891834I just came across this post from 2016, which was shortly before I finally found this forum…so I missed out.
I’m just wondering why this event was not repeated, being that some of the comments said “see you next year”, suggesting that it would be offered again.
Liability concerns?
Looks like it was “the event” to see and be seen within the IDO community.
I know the following year(s) there were informal events organized by forum members that experienced mixed (or poor) results.
Just curious if we might ever see something like this again. I suppose only the IDO professional staff could answer, since it looks like this was put on and promoted by IDO.
November 18, 2019 at 9:13 pm #1891844There was an event at Ballards on Lake of the Woods. Don’t remember what year was fun.

Was that one of the earlier “Sturgeon Excursions”?
I missed that too.
A couple years ago, the Sturgeon Excursion was supposedly making a comeback up there with Krueger Farms sponsoring with prizes and such…I think?
That event vanished like a ghost without a trace.
