Hate to be the first responder but unless the spelling is way off I don’t think Chevy ever made an Alliance.
September 12, 2024 at 7:05 am #2289011that’s what I’m wondering too!! she is usually right on.. thanks anyway!!
September 12, 2024 at 7:21 am #2289012Nope never heard of that model Mike. It would have had a bad transmission though probably by now.
September 12, 2024 at 7:47 am #2289017No chevy model by that name.
There is however, a chevy dealership in Alliance Ohio……September 12, 2024 at 8:10 am #2289026I texted her and told her to recheck the name of the car… thanks guys!!!
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22682September 12, 2024 at 8:39 am #2289035I was wondering if this was perhaps a model that was sold overseas just not here, but I checked even that and no. Interested to hear what it really is LOL
September 12, 2024 at 10:10 am #2289060just heard from her, it’s a Terrain!! just a bit of a difference!! so anyone know anything about them???
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22682September 12, 2024 at 10:13 am #2289061Ahaha! That is also a GMC not a chevy. I believe in that age range there were engine issues with them, but I have never personally had one myself. I am sure someone like JOhn Rasmussen could confirm.
September 13, 2024 at 3:24 pm #2289247GMC Terrain had a run of bad trannys
2016’s too??
John any thoughts please!! and thanks guys!!!

Yeah sorry timing chain, engine and transmission issues. But other than that. Tell her to keep up on the oil level and change it early and often. Service the transmission fluid the same way. How many miles?

Could you be thinking of the Chevrolet Avalanche?

no it was the Terrain
LabDaddy1Posts: 2440September 15, 2024 at 7:07 am #2289363The Chevy alliance. Is this like a group of consumers who stick together to form a lawsuit against GM?
September 16, 2024 at 1:40 pm #2289482At 54,000 I would have the transmission fluid done now. Then like I mentioned do not go over 5,000 miles on full synthetic oil. Also monitor level some should not have started at that low of miles but they tend to eat oil at some point

“No need to check the oil it has a monitor for that. It shows I have 20% left.”

Direct quote from a customer with a locked up engine in a Chevy Cruse. They really need to eliminate those oil monitor systems. They were the worst thing ever.
LabDaddy1Posts: 2440September 17, 2024 at 7:58 am #2289537You think you should change full synthetic at 5k on all vehicles? I’ll admit, I usually do it at 6-7k or so, and have even gone up to 10k once or twice in the past(I know, not good, even though manufacturers say it’s fine).

ReplyQuoteI think the bigger problem today, and one that has flown under the radar for way too long, is the excessively thin oils that manufactures are recommending. 0W oil? Come on! They are recommending these super thin oils not for concerns over the engine but to game the fuel economy mandates. But at what cost?
I run Mobile 1 10W30 in winter and 10W40 in the summer. I might be the last guy on Earth that still running 10w40 but I really feel that this protects the engine better in the high heat months. I also notice way lower oil consumption in my older 180k miles SUV when I’m running this oil in the summer.
I just don’t believe these super thin oils like 5W-20 and crap like that are protecting the engine.
September 17, 2024 at 5:21 pm #2289704If it has the 4cyl John is spot on,timing chain issues.I would change the oil between4-4500 miles.I would be checking the oil every 500 miles until you get a handle on any usage.
September 17, 2024 at 5:38 pm #2289708i know Mike well………..so i’m gonna refrain from comments on all thee above!!!!
also in fear of the rath of moderaters!!!!!

Sorry I did not have time to check in lately. Yes I will never intentionally go over 5k on any oil. It’s just not worth the risk.
To grouses point on the thinner oils I agree to a point however I would worry about the thicker than intended oil not getting to the top of the engine quick enough on the newer engines.

Nah, I know many guys running 10W-40 on motors with “loose” ring gaps. These guys are running on either the Road Course or Straight Line, but they also drive on the street a bit and stick with the same oil. They’re just not hogging on it immediately after start up.
I would send my oil in for an oil analysis if I was really concerned about how long to run my oil. I’m betting most would be surprised what they find out. There are many out there, but Blackstone is tough to beat.
It reminds me I should send one in for my LS1 after hitting well over 7K on a recent rip. My desire for a LS3 may happen sooner than later.
