First! And probably the smallest this post will see. I look forward to some chunky northern bass pictures.

I was in FLA last week and had hoped to fish The Quarry in Naples (300 acres)…and post an early pic. My friend was in the process of moving and had been delayed so we never got out. Drat. Am thinking of another spring trip though, maybe Missouri in March … maybe South Dakota if we get early ice out. Bummer to wait until mid-May here in Minney!

Just so you know I’m not dead. Got to love selfies. Impossible not to make a fish look bigger than it is. 20″ 4#

Some fish today had chin scrapes. Not sure if they are pre, spawning or post. The fish look a lot healthier this year maybe thanks to a wet winter.

Most caught on a buzz bait…FUN!

Some mornings when it is cloudy after some warm days they are schooled up and aggressive at sunrise. First 2 casts, 2 bass.

I knew the egrets and herons lining the shore was a good sign. Wish I had the balls to fish it in the dark.

Got the 2016 Bass season started in Southern Illinois. Fished Lake Newton for two days last weekend. This was my biggest. Mamma went 20″ 5-4oz. got her on a 1/2oz red eye shad.

Yes. He had a blast. It ended up being about an 11 hour day as they had to quit so my Dad could check out of his cabin. Roland did not want to stop fishing. My Dad said he was a little sore the next day……..

Since moving to the south I’ve been reduced to fishing bass….but it’s not too bad when you have a legitimate shot at a 10lber everyday. Here’s from an outing a couple weeks ago.

Had the biggest bass I’ve seen go airborne and spit the hook. Kind of like seeing a ski following, fuels the fire!

    Hey, those aren’t bass! grin

That’s pretty cool. If I win the lottery, I’m going to pay a pro to fish with me for a day. I think it would be fun to talk to the about being a pro and see up close how they fish competitively.

I know you can fish with them as an amateur, but I’d rather be able to bend their ear all day without getting in the way of their livelihood.

The boy started pouring a few of his own baits this winter and here is the first fish on his own bait.

Started the season off with a quick trip to Wisconsin and the result was this big girl! Weighed in just over 5. Apologies for the selfie, no one else woke up that morning. neutral

I love the pics. I never get tired of looking at smallmouth, but I’ve done it quite a few times already this spring. I’ll be in the Danbury area tomorrow….fishing for largemouth. I think that is a sure fire sign the summer is here.

This is my favorite from this year. Cool still shot that Nick Cox pulled from our trip to Ashland.

21 inches has to be approximately 5 pounds, however looks a little on the lean side ??

Correct. It should be 5#, but they are lean down here, at least in the pond. My scale was dead, but I’d guess 3.75-4#.

Saturday was marginal in the mid morning when we got out but we still managed a few really good fish, later in the afternoon was good on a different lake. He out fished me big time on both lakes yesterday. He was over 20# for five fish on both lakes and I didn’t even catch 5 on the first one. Sometimes it’s just fun being the net man…

Nice fish! I don’t mind being a net man either, as long as someone is catching something.

First decent Bass of the year. Extra exciting as I was fishing for pan fish with a light fly rod and a small nymph tied on a #10 hook.

That must be a blast catching bass, heck any fish on a fly. I’d like to learn some day.
