Well guys, this is sneaking up on us pretty quick. Won’t be long and a a few states will have the opening bow seasons very soon.
So, a few questions so we can get this rolling:

I know DT handled this last year( THANK YOU!!!) , are you going to run this again – or do we need someone else to step up this year?

Beginning and ending dates?? There was some discussion last year on running it longer because of I think Illinois or Missouri didn’t end until end of January.

One suggestion I have is reducing the does that you can enter. Last year was 3, and I feel that is too high. I would like to see a reduction in the incentive to take does out of the system. Many areas have reduced deer quotas and guys trying to get their local herd numbers up. What do you think of a 2 doe limit per team??

    Any other suggestions or questions??

    Last years’ rules:
“Entry Fee: $5 Fleet Farm gift card mailed to my residence. Send me a friend request titled “deer contest” and I will message you my address. Like in years past, I will pick teams out of a hat to make teams of 3. Since teams will be randomly selected I will take entries postmarked by September 30th.

Payout: The payout with be 1st place- 50%, 2nd place- 30%, 3rd place- 20%. These prizes will be divided between the team members. IDO is also offering up an additional $50 card for 1st, $25 card for 2nd and a $10 card for 3rd. These will also be split between the team members

Here are the rules for this years Contest:
    1) I will only accept pics taken in the field before the deer is field dressed, if that is not possible please use your best discretion and make them tasteful.

    2) I will require pictures of the deer tags from the winning teams.

    3) A maximum of one buck and two does or three does may be entered into this contest by each team member.

    4) All entries must be submitted with a photograph of the deer in the “2014 Deer Contest Results” thread along with your team number and state that the deer was taken in.

    5) Any legal weapon may be used during their set season depending upon states hunted.

    6) Any buck harvested by YOURSELF is allowed to be entered into the contest. If you shoot a buck enter it, if you happen to shoot a higher scoring buck for the contest enter that too and the higher scoring buck will be the one counted and added to your team score. Still only one buck counts towards your score, but I’m allowing people to enter multiple bucks if they end up shooting a larger one after the first one.(Each team member may still only count one buck).

    7) Adult does (no fawns) only can be entered into the contest for does, except for youth AGE 16 AND UNDER.

    8) Points will be awarded for each harvest as follows:

-Each doe (up to three without a buck) entered by each team member are worth 5 points each.

-Any legal Buck are worth an automatic 10 points plus 1 additional point for each tine 1 inch or larger.

    9) This contest is for whitetail and mule deer only.

    10) Team members are not allowed to shoot Deer for each other.

**Deadline for Deer entries is January 1st 2015**”

Also, I will sponsor a separate prize for the individual team member with the largest buck. This will consist of an Extreme Hunting Solutions Sample Pack like I did last year – Congrats to JordanB for his buck in 2014!
As an additional incentive – If you provide your registration pic here on IDO with any EHS product in use & your buck that I may submit to EHS on your behalf – I’ll double up the package of stick-n-licks, Kandy Korn, and no trespassing signs.

I will do it again if the site was not going to do one. I haven’t asked yet. I did feel bad that it was not run longer last year. I forgot that the southern states would be open longer. Lower does numbers would be fine with me. I just said three because that is what it had been before. I had a thought that might help the point system be different if everyone shot say a 10 pointer. Maybe we could count the tines like last year but then also add the number of inches of the longest tine. That should eliminate ties.

I enjoyed last years contest, so DT if ya run it again keep it up. I agree with lower doe numbers, and however scoring goes for bucks just make sure its easy to understand and be communicated through the post to enter the buck. As far as southern states going longer I can only speak for IL, and the state has late winter CWD/antlerless only seasons, which is usually used to take does and “control” population numbers. So with a lowered doe entry level like suggested those seasons may or may not play a big factor in the contest. I don’t know what other states have for actuall antlered harvest and seasons after January first.

On a side note I have made up my mind this year to eat tag soup before taking a doe, untill the last day of season or last chance to hunt, but definitely not looking to take a doe this year.

I don’t want the doe question to be sore spot with anyone, and I hope all will chime in on their thoughts.

Regardless DT, I’m in and will also put Olivia in. She is focused on her Bull tag in CO peace peace

I’m in again! I’m okay with the 2 doe limit. Thanks for running it again DT, and to Randy for getting it going! Looking forward to the season! I’d say run it to the end of January, lots of seasons still in swing during January. Maybe even January 15th?

FYI – I’m getting a few PM’s on entering as well as where to send money for entering. Let’s let this play out this week to field Every One’s opinions on the reduction of Does to 2 per team, input on ending date, or if anyone else has ideas or wants to donate to the prize pool. Hopefully by then we have our chair-person/Judge (DT…. whistling ) and any additional prize contribution by IDO committed to.

    We are almost ready wave

Hey DT – I really like the idea of the length of the longest tine and that should eliminate any ties. However you incorporate the measurement into the rules is fine by me – It will be fair for all.

FYI – I was on the Mills website for gift cards. The options start at $10.00.

Thoughts on this? Is $10.00 to steep for our contest? Alternate ideas?
