Great job fbrm! I knew you could fill another page single handedly this year!
My friend Greg caught a tagged sturgeon in September. It was caught between the new bridge and King plant. It was tagged Nov. 02, 2012.Greg sent GPS info to Joel and found it was tagged .7 miles downstream. It grew an inch but weighed the same
I hope this weather holds…but really? How long can I expect it to last?
Long enough Brian to make of my greatest fishing stories… Thanks @boone for making it a great night.
Met Dan today. We went fishing. He tells me his biggest sturgeon was a 65″, caught last year, close to where we were fishing. Said it was tagged. But the yellow id missing.
I said. No poop. I caught a 66″ 64# day before Thanksgiving with the same tag… Gotta be same fish.
Then one of the rods hooks up. I reel down and passing rod to Dan, who made me take it…. Two minutes in I know it’s over 30#, ,3 minutes in I know it’s over 40 and after 5 it proved over 50. I wished Dan took the rod. The fish hit the surface eventually and I called it immediately, just because of how it was swimming. Unique. Dan, this is the tag monster!!!
After a net job, weigh it, 64#. OK.
Put it on tape and there’s the tag. Taped at 66″.
Each of our PB fish, each of us got to see again.
Dan said dnr reported 5 previous catches I think.
What a great fishing story I’ll never forget!
Andy,
Thanks for letting me jump in with you tonight. I had planned to fish walleyes in the afternoon / evening today but then recalled your earlier offer to join you on one of your sturgeon outings. I think your message was something like, “….if you ever want to catch something over 20 lbs…..” I’m glad our schedules worked out.
Here’s a link to my post in October 2014 about this fish.
65″ Sturgeon with the Missing Tag ID
I know of five times that fish has been caught. The first as by the DNR on November 3, 2010 about where you caught it tonight. At that time it was 62.4 inches long and weighed 44.1 pounds. The second was by another angler earlier in 2014. The third was my catch on October 11, 2014, and the fourth and fifth catches were by you in the past few weeks.
Here’s some photos from that fish when I caught it on October 11, 2014.
Thanks again for the memorable trip.
Boone
All the Girls I’ve loved before! LOL!
The tagged- no tag trophy!
That was bens first sturgeon. At 5’6″ he took a wrestlers stance and horsed that fish in no differently than I would have. On my heaviest rod no less. Heard an odd crack noise during the fight. Ben said the reel seemed loose.. I just figured he was feeling a big rod Bent to the hilt for the first time. After the photo I was rebaiting and noticed the reel seat cracked on my revo toro hs winch. Once I loosened the reel keeper nut that plastic seat snapped right in half. Lol. If that happened during the fight that wouldve been interesting. Lol.
Fun stuff
Good buddy made it up last night for his first sturgeons. To quote him during the first fight “this ain’t no 6# walleye”
Good times.
Dang dude, nice to see you are still on the fish!!
Hopefully the weather warms up and my daughter can reel in her first. Picking her up tonight.

You’ll have to make sure to compare my sturgeon fighting acumen to hers, I’m sure it will be very complimentary…to her.
Nice! Good to see the fish are still going good. Gonna try and find my own December sturgeon this week
This one is my favorite.
Daughters first.
57″ 33#
Dang Croix is locked up 1/2 mile north of Prescott. Steady flow of ice down the sippi
Fbrm if you ever need a body in your boat for a few extra rods I am game sitting in most any weather!
I recognize those big, happy grins. No better way to warm up. Happy for both of you, may it be the first of many.😊😊😊
