November 2, 2015 at 9:08 am #1574668I think I remember 2 other lines getting caught up in that fight
November 3, 2015 at 10:38 am #1574924Andy, I know you’re a bit younger then I but even 10 years ago, I was spent after hooking, fighting, landing and taking a picture of two plus 50″ fish!

November 5, 2015 at 10:58 am #1575374Dead forum. Might just have to keep fish photos to myself.
Been kinda tied up and hot even making it to Ido some days.
rschmidtyPosts: 173November 5, 2015 at 6:29 pm #1575472That’s crazy you caught the same one a couple of days later. Further proof that these fish do great with catch and release. Has anyone else knowingly caught the same sturgeon?
November 5, 2015 at 6:57 pm #1575477Have caught one three times in the same area this fall. Had a stubby nose with scar. Starting to think these fish don’t move a lot.
November 8, 2015 at 6:07 pm #1575951I’d say the new catch and release season is a big hit.
And keep posting. Just because no one isn’t replying, doesn’t mean no one is looking.
At least that’s what I keep telling myself about my posts.
November 10, 2015 at 7:14 pm #1576431bsolutely determined for the anchor. This guy was a fighter with 30# of anchor attached.

Dnr transmitter. That’s a first!Attachments:
November 10, 2015 at 9:45 pm #1576460I’ve never heard of anyone catching a sturgeon that was implanted with a transmitter. Very cool. When you get the history on the fish from the DNR, can you please post that information here? It will be interesting learn when the transmitter was implanted, how far they’ve tracked her, etc.
Thanks for sharing. Always enjoy seeing the photos of your big sturgeon.

November 11, 2015 at 12:25 pm #1576551You betcha!
and post the results here. Even if you didn’t get any measurements. The number of times caught gives an indication of who strong (or week) the population is.
November 11, 2015 at 12:27 pm #1576553Someone else had a radio tagged fish. The DNR was trying to figure out how to send the info on it’s travels.
I’ll have to check up on that once I start breathing on my own again.
November 13, 2015 at 1:29 pm #1577052Radio tagged LS info:
I sent an email this morning to get detection data for this fish downstream of Lock & Dam #3. I’ll put a map together for you to show where it has gone since we put the transmitter in it, how deep it has gone, and the temperatures for the fish. In the meantime, I can tell you that we captured that fish on 4/15/15 in a commercial fisherman’s seine haul that was landed at Pt Douglas Park (swimming beach) in the southwest corner of Lake St Croix. We measured the fish as 42.5 inches long and it weighed 14.1 pounds. We released the fish at 4:20 pm, and it has been detected by our deployed acoustic receivers 3,329 times in the St Croix River and Pool 3 of the Mississippi River. My last detection of that fish in Pool 3 was 6/12/15 at 4:33:49 am, then it passed through the lock near Red Wing. That is where our Lake City Fisheries Office started detecting that fish.
Did you happen to get a length or weight on that fish at all? Glad to hear your sturgeon fishing has been going well down there. I don’t know much about the lake sturgeon down that way. From what I know, they aren’t terribly abundant, but it’s not like they are rare or endangered. If you find the right spot at the right time of year, I hear the action can be pretty good.

East Metro FisheriesI think is natural to assume sturgeon are always moving up stream.
More and more data shows fish moving both ways.
