2014 1500 5.3 V8 with 130k miles. I took it in for rear shocks and an oil change.
All maintenance performed within manufacture specified guide lines here. Truck never displayed error code or service engine light. No low oil pressure,no high engine temperature, and no noise. Apparently the active variable oil pump grenaded my engine. Found low oil pressure. Found metal in oil pan. Said the oil pump replacement wouldnt help. Need a new engine. 5k in labor plus 5k for a reman motor with the garbage AFM removed.
Screw GM. If you have this truck and your tranny or engine hasnt blown up yet, count your blessings and sell the piece of garbage asap. This is my second GM truck and it is my last.

That sucks. We like to kid about which brand is better but something like this should never happen and it really sucks when it does. There are other options that would save quite a bit so try shopping around if that is still an option. Good luck.

So, assuming you drove it in to the shop for service how did you discover the engine was blown? So apparently the oil gauge didn’t work either? I’m a bit confused.

Look in a salvage yard for a motor. You can have them remove it and then find a guy to do a swap. Or just scrap yours.

Never noticed the oil pressure being low because I rarely look at my oil gauge. This all happened after getting my last oil change. Went with reman engine. Scrap yard had risk of repeat performance. Point of posting was just to inform other 14’ owners.

You froze your truck in and it was fine, then they changed your oil and it was blown up ? I’m kind of confused or maybe I missed something. Did it grenade after the oil change ? Did it have oil in it. I had a dealer change my rear end fluid and my rear end locked up on my way home. They never refilled it. It took a lawyer to get chevy to replace my rearend.

Been there done that. I have the 6.2l, but same year. 2014.
I had to put a crate motor in to the tune of 10k as well. Worst part was it was only 91 days out of powertrain warranty but well below the 100k mark.
GM waved at me with 1 finger.

I turned off the AFM in the new motor with a PUlse tuner once the 30k warranty was up. It will likely be the last gas GM motor I own.

I had the same truck, 2014 w/ 132k on it when my oil pump grenaded. I guess I was fortunate as I noticed it coming for a week or so (oil pressure was about 5psi lower than normally at idle and under power). When my finally went it dropped oil pressure completely.

I’m a little confused how could have drove it there with a blown oil pump. The dummy lights blew up on my dash when it happened.

I replaced to oil pump and shortly after the torque converter was giving me issues (not to mention the brake booster that about put my truck and boat in the drink – later recalled).

I traded it in on an older truck – no issues so far…

I liked many things about the truck but it was a money pit. So many little things and issues that added up costing me lots of money. I’m convinced that era truck was designed while GM was in bankruptcy and I’m guessing quality was cut in many areas to save on cost. Just a guess…

Yikes. I’ve been there. I put in a salvaged engine for under $4K and traded it in a week later.

I have the same truck, 2014 Silverado 5.3, 106,000 miles. It’s been problem free so far. Maybe not for much longer….. we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Id say sell it but Im guessing its paid for in full and this is the worst time in the history of trucks to buy. Fingers crossed you got an afm oil pump that doesnt grenade.
