I own the above mentioned motor. I know you can get a whole new trolling handle for the motor which comes at a pretty steep price. I have also been told by someone that you can hook a rocker switch and wires up and adjust the rpm’s the same way. Does anyone know if this is really possible or have experience with doing something like this. I have this motor on an older 16.5′ Alumacraft Dominator and I really can’t get it to troll down as slow as I would like while pulling cranks. I am aware that I can throw a bag out to accomplish this but, thought if I really could just hook up a rocker switch that would be a perfect option.

    Thanks,

Update on this in case someone else was interested. I contacted a Mercury dealer. There is such a kit, but on the 40-60HP motors it does not lower your RPM speed at all. Only on 75HP and up.

I have had a similar issue in the past so I used to attach a 5 gallon bucket (or drift sock-bucket was more appropriately sized for me) to the bow hook. Slowed me right down to 1.0 MPH at an idle. I drilled the rope through the bucket because I’m sure the handle wouldn’t last.

They also make those trolling plates if you can stand the looks of them attached to the motor
