    Hi all,

I’m not really that familiar with Skeeter as I’ve always owned Ranger, but my dad recently came across a good deal on a nicely rigged ZX2050, so he sold his 2000 620 and bought it. I’ve ran the boat a couple of times and I have to admit that I really like fishing out of it. Not quite as much space on the bow as my 620, but otherwise it handles nice. Performance-wise, it seems to get out of the hole ok, but once up on plane at full throttle you cannot trim the motor up at all without it wanting to porpoise. He didn’t do a whole lot last summer to try to solve this but I told him that I’d get online and see if I could find any info for him. He has added a SE Sport 300 hydrofoil and also played around with a couple of different props, but he says nothing seems to help. I know that he’s got a 19p (Saltwater Series?) prop on it now, but not but not exactly sure what other props he’s tried. I think he should try to go up in pitch to a 21, but not sure what brand to recommend. I have a Tempest 21 on my 620 with a 225 e-tech that seems to work well, but don’t think it will work on his motor due to different spline? I know there are a ton of posts out there about porpoising, but nothing too definitive that I’ve found, so I figured I’d try here. Any other suggestions?

FYI – He’s not too worried about top-end, so this isn’t a huge issue to him, but I just think that he should be able to trim up a bit at full throttle and not worry about this happening.

    Thanks.

I had a zx2050 with a 250 HPDI several boats ago. This hull needs a prop that provides stern lift. The best prop on mine was a Mercury Rev 4, I think it was a 19 pitch if I remember right. Not sure if the 225 4S would like it as well. The other thing you can do is have a wedge installed between the transom and outboard to allow for more downward trim angle. I’d start with the prop first.
