WASHINGTON, July 11 (Reuters) – Chrysler-parent Stellantis has warned 29,000 owners of 2003 Dodge Ram pickups to immediately stop driving pending repairs after one person was killed when a Takata air-bag inflator exploded.

The fatality in May is the first reported involving a Takata passenger-side bag, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a statement. The “Do Not Drive” warning applies to 29,000 2003 Dodge Ram pickups believed on the road, the automaker said.

Wouldnt these have already been part of that massive recall that affected so many different vehicles? I havent read much on this but has there been any accountability to Takata for this?

Yes, they are. The stop driving is being mandated as people continue to ignore the recalls that have been out over 5 years. Chrysler issued stop driving on Chargers, Magnums and 300’s that are over 13 years old awhile back. It’s kind of a way to get the urgency out, to replace the airbags.

I would take that Stop-Driving request serious. Not so much on the one issued for my snowmobile.

So the numbskulls are not bringing them in to have them replaced? Stupid is as stupid does.

I have an older Toyota car that I use to commute and keep miles of my truck. Had it in a few years ago to have a Takata air bag done under recall only to 6 months later receive another letter to have it done again.

I’ve never heard of it.

I know some vehicles that use Takata airbags on driver and passenger sides, the airbags were available for the drivers side, before the passenger side. They did the drivers side under one recall campaign (then advised nobody ride in the psgr seat) and released the 2nd recall for the passenger side, when parts became available. This is the largest recall that there ever has been and went across most makes and models.

Be shocked. Sorry I’ve never heard of the 03 ram air bag issue. I guess I don’t sniff around looking either

It wasnt just ram, it was millions of other vehicles from basically all manufacturers.

When it was recalled on my 08 Ram, I bet I got a thing in the mail twice a month and 2 phone calls a week until I got it fixed. Not to mentioned a couple emails.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard about it either- or just don’t remember it…

Not too many 03 Rams left around here. Most have rusted away long ago.

Well it is, but this was hardly missing from the news since it affected 67 million vehicles Rams included.

I guess I don’t watch or read much news so I didn’t know the 03 ram was in a do not drive mandate. Just like my first post said. I wasn’t aware never heard it before. In no way was I asking about 63 million other vehicles.

The do not drive is new. It just came out yesterday so you arent under a rock afterall LOL.
The takata recall was from back in 2019 or even earlier I think though.

I happen to have this truck and drive it regularly. Never heard anything about this until this thread. I’ll be contacting the dealership, thank you for posting!

relax. If you never heard about the Takata recall there is no excuse for that. The park it thing is a different story since it just came out yesterday. TBH Im more shocked there are still some of them on the road. LOL

As a PSA.. here is the list of vehicles that have been recalled for Takata Airbags… the airbags are in a steel framed housing, that when it gets corroded (think rusty from humidity) it can turn the housing into shards of steel shrapnel… so you may survive the impact with the airbag, but you get cut by shrapnel and bleed out.
