Hey guys. New to fishing here. Need some advice.
I’m between 2 boats right now and there’s a couple of factors but I just need to know if anyone has experience with these two boats.
They are both triton. One is a 2005 triton tr-186 with a mercury 150 efi earl bentz edition. The other a 2001 triton Fs 18 with a mercury 150 xr6.
I’m a fisherman but my wife is a woman who likes to just lay out and wants something that “looks nice. She likes the fish and ski. Worried about the xr6 motor on that though. Please help!!!

I have the 150 xr6 It is a 1996 model she smokes a little at idle but has been flawless. I ran it on a 20 ft stratos. compared to my four stroke it likes the fuel.

P.S. did I say it was fast wow compared to the four stroke.

I had an XR6 on a 1775 Lund ProV. I liked the motor and it never gave me any problems. It was very cold blooded and didn’t like to start in cold weather. I am talking colder than 45F. A mechanic at Rapid Marine told me how to start it in cold weather. I had to pump the primer ball hard before I tried to start it. Then held the choke in by holding the key in without trying to start it for about 30-45 seconds. Then after about 45 seconds try to start it still holding the choke on and it would fire up and good to go once it warmed up. I would also agree it was a really fast motor for a 150. As long as it looks like it has been maintained properly the the compression checks out, I wouldn’t have an issue buying it.

I had an XR6 on a nitro bass boat.

I agree with the other posts above. They are a fast motor that loves fuel and cold blooded.
One thing to add. Don’t freak out if the thing isn’t pumping water out Pee hole. It won’t until the engine gets to operating temp. Then the water coming out will be very warm.
