Hi all, I picked up a nice Lund from my buddy for a very good price. I like to troll a lot up here in Idaho. Want to pick up a used kicker but not sure what HP for this size of boat and long or short shaft. Thanks.

What size outboard is on there? Guessing its an older 2 stroke? I used to troll all the time with my outboard but that will really depend on what speeds you like to troll at. Regarding a kicker an 8 or 10 hp would be more than sufficient.

Yeah that might be a bit big to troll slowing than like 3mph

If it were me, I would try and find a used Yamaha T8. They run forever.

Excellent idea! I have heard some good things about those little Tohatsus too. Buddy has one and loves it.

I’ve got a 2001 Lund Pro Sport 1700. I’ve got a 115 4-stroke Yamaha and a 9.9 4-stroke Yamaha kicker. Thing is bulletproof. You could get by with less than a 9.9 imo.

I have the same boat with a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke…. I got super lucky and four a used T8 with tile and trim…. Had been looking at cheaper options. So glad I got this motor!!!! Love it, and it runs for hours and hardly sips any fuel. I have a tiller handle as I sit in the back and 95% of the time have my Terrova going for boat control and steering. Simply awesome way to go. That T8 and Terrova auto pilot system is a 100% game changer when trolling- I’m solo all the time so it is even better yet.
