Hey guys I just bought this boat for my mom for her birthday and I’m still having a issue that’s really stumped me I’ve tried everything I know to and read the manual but I am new to outboards so if anyone could help me out i would be extremely appreciative so here’s the story the motor ran perfect when i got it but then it randomly stopped working long story short the guy I bought it from apparently stripped out all the splines in the flywheel and just put it back on the right position with jb weld and I guess that’s why it would work great at first but then shifted enough to throw the timing off so I replaced the flywheel and also replaced the stator and trigger coil just in case that was also an issue and it finally started up fine but when i took into the water and gave it full speed it only went 10mph but before I replaced everything it was 26mph and I didn’t touch the timing at all i just replaced the parts so then I had some mechanics check it out and they messed with the timing but still 10mph or worse so at this point I’m stumped and not sure what else I can do so if anyone has any ideas I will try anything and i appreciate any help I can get, thank you for your time and hope to here from anyone when they get a chance.

So I called this young man at 630 AM here Friday morning, 730 where he lives, and we had quite the discussion and I believe we figured out the issue.
Problem is I havent heard back if it fixed it or not, I sent two pms and still nodda.
Oh well,, as long as he is on the water and keeping his mom happy I am happy.

Good on you Sheldon for stepping up as you always do. You are a tremendous resource for this site, not only for your knowledge, but for lessons given on how to be a good man. And even if no one here ever noticed, there is someone who will know toast

Im so very sorry for the late response between work and family I’ve been swamped havent had a minute to myself or even to attempt all your advice plus my timing light was broke so had to get a new one but geez of course when I’m luckily enough to get amazing help is the one time I get swamped with other things but I’m back at it I got everything I need to try out your advice and I’m just waiting on my brother to come back from the store and we’re gonna try to re time it I definitely won’t leave yall hanging as soon as I know it’s fixed you guys will definitely know what fix it and all the details once again I’m incredibly sorry for dropping the ball and making you feel as if I just up and left also I wasn’t getting notified about dms so that’s why I never responded best way to reach me is to call or text my number but I know you shouldn’t have to chase after me when ya helping me so I’ll definitely be more aware from now on thank you again

Of course when I got to Time it there’s no spark I’m not sure what happened because the last time it was sparking was when I brought it to the mechanic and now nothing

I’m thinking they may have blown the cdms when they did a compression test

False alarm I just over thought it, it was just the running switch so we got spark now
