Kind of sounds like a penalty of sorts for the Groundhog seeing his shadow or something. May 15 is late this year, anyone have any big plans for the upcoming season… or other states or species between now and Opener?

I’m considering a day trip across the border to Wisconsin in April, depending on the weather. I also still intend to panfish and turkey hunt before May 15 as well. I think the lakes around the metro area will be ice free by early April.

I’ll make some trips to Wisconsin and I found a few solid lakes across the border last season including one with nice smallies. I also enjoy the crappie spawn so I’ll be doing that as well, and shorefishing the Mississippi for cats and walleye early spring.

Ya. 2 months away seems like a long time right now. I hope you can see a time we have a early catch and release season here in Minnesota. It would be great to throw a few baits for bass while out doing some early crappie fishing. Then again I’ve seen some nice bass caught on spinnerbaits while crappie fishing jester rotflol devil

I’m looking forward to watch some BASS coverage on Pickwick lake starting on Thur. Watching the tourney coverage helps a little to pass the time till We can get out there chasing them ourselves.

I’m just happy WI opened it up. I’m lucky that I’m only 15 minutes from the border so it’s not a bad drive to some preseason (MN) bass.

And yes, the tourney coverage has been great so far this year. Only problem is it makes my wallet take a hit!

I think we will see a early catch and release season hear in Minnesota soon. Hopefully by next spring. Save you the cost of a Wisc. non resident license

I don’t think we will honestly. It will always be grouped in with other things they are trying to pass and will get vetoed down. I also don’t think the DNR wants to do it.

I’m plenty happy giving WI my money each year because they have earned it. And the more I fish over there the more lakes I find that have better fishing than my local waters here in MN. And not just bass fishing.

I’m skeptical too, at least for a while. Perhaps eventually but it may be years before it happens. I feel like when these new proposals come along, other items get stiuck in there with it. If it was simply a standalone bill…

A lot of years, an early C&R season wouldn’t help much given our climate here. But I’d say about half the years, we could be out there early. Every extra week to extend the season is a plus to me anyway, it’s too short as it is..

Wisconsin is 10 minutes away from me, and I also fish the river.
