I am looking for a good 2 man flip over house that is light and fits into a Chevy short box.
Hopefully has a decent sled to pull by hand.
    Anyone have a good recommendation?

Just got an Eskimo Thermal Sierra, For sure a hand pull sled but not poor quality just not as bullet proof as an Otter. I drag it on a smitty sled. The house itself is hands down the best value in ice fishing. $400 great seats, insulated, aluminium square tubing.

But otter and Clams have benefits too for more money. I say save $400 and buy some rods or a new sonar. Fits in my short bed ram. I do have to pull the pins on the seats to get them under my toneau cover though.

I have a frabill 2 man side step, bit of a pain until you learn to set up, love the extra room in front, fits in my ford 6.5 ft bed with room to spare.

The Otter Cabin would be a great choice but if you want something with a little more room you’ll want to step up to the Lodge and that might get a little more heavy to pull.

I could not find an Otter to fit under my tonneau.

Good luck finding one to fit in the box of a Chevy. Fords have taller sides and you still need a 6.5 box for the most part. It seems most houses are built just outside those specs of the small box trucks. I actually am having a custom made hitch carrier that will fit my Yukon thermal. I figured it’s as wide as my suv so just go that route after I downsized from my pickup.

I have an Eskimo Sierra thermal and it fits in the back of my station wagon just fine. I second the quality of it. It’s good not great, but you can’t beat the price point.

Get a Clam Nanook. Good seats, good price, good sled to. Fit it in my buddy’s short box chevy.

Otter Lodge is out. That needs a 6.5′ box. I’d look into a Cabin. I don’t know the measurements, but they’re on the Otter site.

Clam Nanook has seats that sit super low for a tall person. Basically, it feels like a catcher’s squat for someone 6′ 4″ like me. Spend too much time in there and you’ll end up with Joe Mauer’s knees.

X2 on the Eskimo Sierra Thermal. It’s certainly a step down from an Otter, but it has great seats, the square tubing is awesome, and a great price point. It also fits under the tonneau of my Toyota Tacoma if I pull the seats out (significantly shallower box than a standard Chevy half ton). I’m on my second season with this house, and it works great for me.

    cottage with bench seat

$500 at Cabelas Roger right now. Last year’s version. I looked at an X-Over Cottage. Nobody is gonna exit the side doors on that thing!

Craigslist is LOADED with shanties, huts etc for sale. A lot cheaper than new. I bought one that way and it was in perfect shape, plus some good mods.

I was interested in this model, are the doors that small?

They’re pretty dang small, and you have to move the pole that’s directly in the way of the door. All to exit a one-man shack that flips back in literally a second. The side doors would be a benefit in larger shacks with multiple people fishing in them, but not a one-man.

If anyone wants this style house it’s still in the box, I’d let it go for $200.00

x2 I have a Nanook and it’s a great little house. Only complaints would be the height doesn’t allow for standing up (I’m 6’1″) and 2 guys with 4 holes is too tight for my liking. It’s awesome for just me, or if you set a tip up or 2 out it’s fine for 2 guys. Very light and fits into almost any truck bed.

I recently bought a eskimo sierra thermal 2 man and hyfax for the sled. The sled seems cheaply made. Figure I’ll use it for this season and see how it goes. Maybe next year swap it out for a diy wood sled with skis. Only issue with the hyfax bolting into the bottom of the sled, the middle one if you bolt it in without marking where the seats sit at the bottom. I ended up with one bolt in the center of the seat. Here are some of the measurements from Sportmans Guide’s site. I also have a Eskimo Fatfish 949i (insulated) for when I have more friends and family going fishing with me. They both fit in my 2015 F150 Supercrew cab bed, 5.5ft. I don’t have a tonneau cover or camper top.

Clam Nanook would fit what you’re looking for. I have 2 of them. Fishing 2 adults is a little tight, but doable as long as you think about where your stuff is going to set before drilling holes. Also, don’t mount the seat brackets in the factory holes. Space them out a little and you won’t be knocking elbows as much. Change out the seat bracket hardware to wingnuts or quick pins so you can remove weight and add space if you’re solo.

Im in the same ordeal. I’m 6’5″ and fish in a clam nanook. Seats are way to short. Not very comfortable for an all day 12 hour stretch on the ice imo. I’m curious how the new otter lodge and resort are? I have to kids one that 12 and one that’s two. Need some more room. Suggestion? Reviews of either? Any experience with either one? Thanks.
