2 Lines on Two In-Land MN Rivers (March 2023?)

After years of failed omnibus bills, Covid delay, not to mention the DNR not supporting two line summer fishing, my crystal ball shows MN angers using 2 lines (or 2 hooks on one line) on Pool 2, a large portion of the MN River and the short stretch of Pool 3 between Hastings and Prescott WI by March of 2023.

Why this time around? OUR DNR supports it!

2 lines slows things down and complicates things, focus can be important, and it messes up your focus. I would only use 2 lines about 10% of the time, but in that time I would LOVE to use 2.

I fish by myself and would help figure things out a lot quicker.

I agree if you’re talking about using two rods. But unless I’m mistaken we will be able to use two lines with the same rod. In other words, we will be able to legally use Dubuque rigs, for example. I will probably use those often enough.

That would be the correct way to say it Jason.

Two hooks would be allowed for each angler. One on each of two lines or two on one line.

The best thing is that the choice will be yours. Using one hook on one line is always acceptable much like driving slower then the posted speed limit. (OK, bad example)

Two lures on one line for each angler, 3 hooks within 9″ of each other has been legal for some time.

    Straight from DNR.
How many hooks can I use on the end of line?
You may use up to three single or multiple-pronged hooks on the end of one fishing line.
If you use more than one hook, the total length from the first hook to the last hook must be nine inches or less.

I’ve been running 2 hooks for suckers and catfish for awhile, never got any beef from any DNR that’s visited.

back in the day when I fly fished pannies in the spring we did the 3 hooks, I called them a streamer. A couple flies and a popper that floated. Man, get 2 fish on was a blast.

I wasn’t aware of the 9 ” length though whistling

That doesn’t apply to fly fishing. There’s a paragraph in the regulations every year that says you can use up to three flies on your leader when fly fishing, with no distance between flies specified.

And yes, two fish on at the same time is pretty exciting !

2 hooks right next to each other with 2 different types of bait really gives a guy clued into what they’re eating that day. Worms on one, dead sucker on the other, or live cut sucker, or couple fatheads, worm and sucker, etc etc.

    Twice as snaggy tho

“Hey…..Peter…..what would you do if you had a million dollars? Well, I don’t know. What would you do? I’d fish 2 rods at one time, man.”

    Update:

The 2 lines we were hoping to use on the inland portions of the Mississippi River and Minnesota River failed in the House last night.

People in the know, blame House Rep Rick Hanson.

I don’t really have a horse in the race, but I could go back to previous threads where I mentioned despite not really caring….I’d NEVER bet on this happening regardless of whatever momentum it has this go round.

Our legislative process is the epitome of dysfunction (any and all parties included).

I guess I could take the fault on this. I talked with the Gov office, no problem. I know the Senate is on board… but I forgot about the Hose….and no, that’s not a typo.

BK and Darren have dealt with this stuff way way way more than I have, but the more I learn about it, the less I want to come even remotely close to dealing with it. Just gross quid pro quo at every opportunity, and even with overwhelming public support of an initiative, these slimy politicians try and extract as much value for THEM as possible before doing what the constituents want.

    On Hot Mic:

Rep. Michael Nelson, a Democrat, telling state Sen. Mary Kiffmeyer, a Republican, that the governor’s office instructed him to “hold off on” major spending agreements (at the last minute) over disagreements on “Zuckerbucks and vaccine mandates for election judges.”

    and there ya go…..

It will come up again next year as the DNR is for it. In fact it was their idea. They can’t control the senate, house or Governor (unless they don’t want something)

I had a conversation about the bill yesterday at the Roundtable. I asked about why it wasn’t in the House Bill. The best guess was that they held it out to be a bargaining chip in conference negotiations. My take on it is that meeting with Rick Hanson (Chair of the House Evo committee) is in order. It’s called giving the bill legs. Meetings, emails, commentaries in papers and magazines. The DNR can not lobby for bills – at least not in overt ways. Their a State Agency and dice their not opposing it, a grassroots effort
