The power cord to the Elite 5 HDI has an extra set of cables coming out, assuming for networking? Either way, it’s for ice use so can I just cap those off together or do they need to be individually wrapped to avoid interference of some sort?

And the transducer has the holder cord, as well as the actual signal cord, but the float came sealed up so only the holder cord will fit through. What’s the best way of attaching the 2 cords together without adding things the line to get stuck on? Tape would fall off in the water/ice, zip ties would catch the line all the time, any thoughts?

Can you split the foam and run them inside the float

It’s an option, suppose now that you mentoion it probably wouldn’t compromise it at all.

Do most guys even use the safety cord, or keep it simple with just the transducer cord?

Oh really like that idea. Do they have any that can be wrapped around then shrunk?

Biggest advice I can give is the throw the float in the trash. I’ve had my ice-55 since they were released (2008 maybe?) and I’ve never had a single issue. They get in the way and become bothersome. No problems or negative as long as you ensure the cord isn’t frozen to the side of the hole when you pick the unit up to move to a different hole. Even then, I’ve done it a handful of times and it’s just fine.

I’ve read many times the float and cord is PIA, just can’t get myself to rid myself of them. Maybe after another year it’ll bother me enough to.

On mine I split the float and ran both lines through it. Then put a zip tie around it so the float couldn’t fall off, as well as a couple other places to keep the cords together. You can get the small zip ties for cables and they work pretty good.

As for the other part of the power cable it is just for networking. You could probably cut it off but i just coiled it up and stashed it. It is the exact same cable that I have in my boat so I figured its always there as a backup if I need it.

Also, The directions that came with kinda suck, but I found some videos online on how to change the settings for the ice transducer so it’ll work better. If you need it I can post a link to the vid.

I have an Elite 5 HDI mounted on my wheeler I use just for GPS. I cut that extra cord coming off the power cable down to a stub. I think its for wifi or something.

HA! That was the first day I used the Vex, it is now removed. Neither my Helix, 55, or 28 have a float anymore….But I do see the irony here…

Merican Eagle, does that happen to be a Captainpaddle rod?

The cables got capped and stashed. Also had to look up that transducer question when setting it up. Something like the Wbl-wsul or tl, saw it last night. Has the 200khz specific ice ducer correct? Believe I found it on ice shanty.

Will be splitting that foam later today. Anyone ever try siliconing or vulkem the cords together? Not hardcore, just couple dabs here and there to keep it where ya want.
