I just found this ad and am going for a ride to Stewartville’s Fareway shortly to take a peek at the beef. I have about forty pounds of pork butt now so I’m sitting good on that but I do want a brisket. Stewie isn’t all that far for me so it could be worth the drive.

My wife’s from Stewie. Used to tell her it was named for an old eccentric artist who would throw a bucket of stew on a canvas and call it art. Byron was named around the same time. On a wagon train traveling west there was an obnoxious kid named “Ron.” They kicked him out right there and hollered, “Bye, Ron!”

We got home a bit ago. I bought one that’s slightly over 11 pounds. $33.35. They have a full size assortment. I took about 1/2 pound of fat off an area that didn’t need it , but other than that its a nice brisket. Smoking already.

I’ve always said that Fareway had the best meats in Rochester and was sorry to see the one we had close. I just did the math had I bought this one at HyVee. It would have cost $122.54. Robbery at it’s finest. I could have purchased 3.6 of the 11 pounders for that HyVee price.

Of course as soon as I got things rocking with smoke it starts to sprinkle. Hoping we don’t see any serious rain but have done my briskets in the rain before.

Depending on where you are in Rochester the Fareway in Byron might be a tad closer.

Byron’s Fareway opens in November I was told. When I did the Fareway search earlier this morning there was no Fareway listed in Byron.

You are correct Tom. I didn’t realize they were still under construction.

I agree with you about them having the best meat department (when they were in Rochester at least). Some great deals and their quality is top notch.

I was just at the Fareway in Faribault this morning to pick up two butts and two briskets. The ad says limit 2 but the guy said they still have a ton of them and could buy more if you wanted- last day of sale is tomorrow.

I just plucked mine from the smoke. I used slightly larger pieces of applewood and the smoker temp went a hair higher than I thought so I checked the thick end temp and it was right at 168 so I pulled it. Got the picture. Then I wrapped it tight in foil, put in the cooler until its cool. If its cool enough at dinner time I’ll likely slice the thin end for some sandwiches while it still half warm.

The scent from this in the kitchen is just short of heaven.

So it sounds like people are fans of the Fareway meat department? I grew up in Byron and likely moving back there within the next year. Curious to see how it does. Grocery stores have never been successful there

    Looks great though Tom!

They come and go in Rochester too.
Not sure why. Hy-vee expands and Fairway/EcoFoods close.
Hy-vee is typically more expensive so I usually go else where.
    I don’t get it.

    Looks dang tasty Tom!

hey trump said price gouging during this pandemic was going to be dealt with..
you might want to clip the ads from both with the dates in tack on the pages..
and send those up to the white house!!
    just saying right is right….
    wrong is wrong!!

And you just cannot leave politics out of something so innocent. What a shame. moon

We had sandwiches of brisket tonight and I think this is the best one I’ve done thus far and I’ve done a pile of them. Tender. Great flavor.

I grabbed a 9 pounder and a couple of butts thanks for the info Tom! Won’t know how they taste for a couple weeks but interested in trying a smaller brisket as I won’t be entertaining. I’ve done 5 so far but not any below 15lbs.
