Just would like to hear peoples preference and if there are any issues with either of them.

I’ve got a Lazer Pro (3hp) and I have not had any problems with it. Cuts quite a bit faster than some of the 2hp I’ve been around, but the condition of the blades is a big variable there. What I’ve noticed most with my 3hp compared to my old 2hp is there is less jerking at that bottom of the hole, just goes right through. With that said, the 2.5hp models would have more than enough power. I went with the 3hp as it was only like $10 or $20 more so said what the heck. Happy I went that route.

I have the 3 HP Lazer Pro…. Very nice auger. Have not used the 2.5 HP but if it is as reliable as the 3 HP Lazer Pro, you have a good auger. Starts real easy and is not too heavy. Cuts thru the ice very quickly.

2.5 is plenty we in our group of friends 3hp and 2.5 not gaining really much with the 3hp. The 2.5 cuts really fast and never had any problems.

Whichever one you get make sure and follow the starting instructions in the manual. The Solo motor can be easy to flood but only if you don’t follow the starting sequence. Mine fires on 2-3 pulls every time. I have the Lazer Pro because I have a 10″ chipper auger. Awesome power and cuts fast.

I would go 2.5hp. Even if the 3hp cuts a hole 1-2 seconds faster it is the same engine block. I would prefer more block strength/ piston sidewall with slightly less power for any long-term engine reliability. IMO.

If I went with a 10″ I would go to the 3hp for sure.

Ever hear anyone say “I wish I would have went with less power”?

I got a smokin deal on the 3hp and have no complaints. Like others have stated I think that extra .5hp only really helps at the very bottom of the hole. It’s all about having sharp blades in my opinion.

At the end of the hole thing is on the auger not the powerhead. I have a lazer xpress that doesn’t grab the bottom, cuts slightly slower but I am happy with it. My solo is faster but I pretty much have to brace myself every time it goes through.

I have the 2.5hp lazer mag, going on 4 years. Cuts like a dream, doesn’t grab at the bottom of the hole. If it does check your blades or your pitch is off. Get the 2.5, will last longer due to lower running RPMs and thicker cylinder walls. Mine cuts just as fast as a 3hp too.
