    Hi All,
    I apologize if this has been brought up before but the wife and daughters are thinking about taking a trip to Cabo. The main question(s) I have are;
    Can you fish from the shore? Any regulations or location recommendations?
    Any fishing guides you would recommend? (I’m not big on riding around all day pulling baits in the deep blue, but I suspect that’s where all the action is.)
    Do I need to wear Kevlar? LOL

    Thanks in advance,
    Don

    When choosing a guide, you have the choice of inshore or offshore. The inshore is more fun for the family, Dorado, Tuna and many other catchable species versus hunting for marlin offshore and a very long boat ride. On our last trip to Mexico, there were a number of people that fished from shore but we never saw them catch anything.

    The best time to fish is during our summer. Shore fishing can be done for roosterfish, jacks etc….
    Lots of options for fish from a boat including pangas, super pangas and large tuna boats.
    Shore fishing guides are also available. Usually fishing up the east cape.

    The real question is when. In the winter with the cold water I’ve shore fished and caught lady fish, pargo, and snapper. Best was to rent a kayak but we went up the east cape. Pitched swim baits on my pike setup and did well. Attached is a pic of a pargo. On this trip I went out on a panga and caught a few small tuna but the big gamefish weren’t in the waters yet. Early March of 2018.

    The warmer the water the better the fishing all around. If you can narrow down a time I can get you better info.

    What I did was go down to the docks and talked to the little guys. I went out 2 days on different boats. Negotiated $300 a 1/2 day, boat , bait, license. Caught Dorado and Tuna and had a marlin follow-up.
    Cabo is world class fishing with a true chance at a #1000 lb marlin.
    I love Cabo, it feels like your in S. Cali. They ave Home Depots, Wallgreens, etc. It’s the safest place that I’ve been in Mexico.

    That sounds about right. I think I paid $275 per day. Best day we had was about a half dozen tuna in the 25# range with a couple wahoo. I plan on a trip down there in the summer to go after big fish at some point.

    Id spend the money and rent a boat for offshore fishing. Not that expensive compared to the whole cost of the trip and other entertainment. Bonus is getting a tuna or dorado to eat at night. Restaurants will cook your fish for a reasonable price. Ernies Cabo fishing and Gueritto are good safe boats with father son combos that speak English reasonably well.

    PS The Elizabeth and Dream Weaver are also good boats for a little less. Yopu can have the fish processed and shrink wrapped to bring home. Bring a collapsible soft side cooler.
