1996 Chevy suburban Lt transmission problems

Okay so I have my suburban, we just moved and in moving we towed a 1 ton chicken coop up a hill of about 25-30° which was our drive way. We have 4 wheel drive high and low and we towed this coop in 4 low. afterwards we hauled a sectional to my brothers house in san lorenzo and had to replace the catalytic converter after a couple passes over the altamont. Now however we seem to be having a problem with the transmission, we have lost an amount of acceleration across all gears and have been seeing the transmission shift a to second skipping 3rd a lot lately, especially in areas where we’d usually only have to be in 3rd, the transmission fluid is clean and at the right levels I just don’t know what it could be.

I thought I had big tranny issues once in a ’92 Ford Pick-up, got the tranny rebuilt and found out it did the same thing after the re-build. Ended up being a computer problem. A $75 used computer and issues got fixed. But I got a new tranny! lol

Maybe not your problem but maybe run a scan on the computer?

Late 1990 to early 2000 GMC half ton vehicles are known to have transmission problems as they put on the miles. That is what I was told at the tranny shop. The first question they asked is were you towing in overdrive. My brother in law had 3 go bad. My 1999 Suburban set me back $2500.

Try cleaning the mass air flow sensor. If they get dirty the symptoms will mimic a slipping transmission and mess with the shift points. It will lack power. Espically on hard acceleration or under a load. If you opt to replace DO NOT USE a aftermarket one! 99% they are junk out of the box. Get one from gm or ac Delco.

When the CAT failed did it break up? a plugged/restricted exhaust will alter the shift points. Make it feel like you are always pulling 5000#

X2 waytogo Why did you replace the cat in the first place ? Need a little more info to help you out some. Have you had a scanner on the vehicle to see if the trans is shifting right /wrong ?

I work on vehicles for a living if you like to call me PM me for a number !
