Hi. I’m looking to buy a boat that is comfortable on big water but not to much for smaller lakes as well. I’m torn between a 1993 lund angler 1600 2 40 hp mercury or a 1990 stinger 1600 40 hp mariner. What are the big differences in the 2 of them? Who has owned either and liked or disliked them ?

If you can find a 1660 Pro V buy it, the best all-around boat I have ever had. DK.

At that age of boat the reliability of the motor on big water will be more of a determining factor than the style of boat for myself.

Looking at the brochures, the Angler II is 3″ wider and has a built-in 15gal gas tank.

I own a 1992 Angler II tiller with a 40 hp Mercury. It has been a great boat for me and the lakes I fish. I haven’t been out on any big water with it, but think it would be fine as long as you pick your days. The motor trolls down perfectly for crankbaits and tops out around 27-28 mph when loaded. The boat would get tight if you plan on fishing with three guys. It also has limited rod storage. Other than that it is a great boat.

I’ve owned a 93 Angler II with 40hp Johnson for over 20 years that I bought when I was 16 years old. Got a job the day I turned 15 with the single goal of buying a boat, stuck money away and in the spring of 2000 paid $5500 for it, half down and parents cosigned a 1 year loan for the other half haha.

Anyways its been a great little boat that is primarily used as a riverboat on the Missouri in ND and then the occasional small lake. I don’t think id consider it a “big water” boat, at least not windy ND big water like Sakakawea, Oahe, Devils Lake. It is the perfect river boat though, trolls down to pull cranks in the spring and mine will do over 30mph with just me in it. Put a Garmin 93UHD on it last year and might upgrade the trolling motor to a 24v terrova soon, since my current one is about 15 years old.

Overall its been the best purchase I have ever made as far as recreation. Put an untold amount of hours on it, countless fish in it, hardly stuck any money into it and could sell it today for what I paid in 2000.

I ran a 92 Angler II for years. Had a 50 hp Merc on it. Beat the urine out of that boat and couldn’t break it. Ran it on leech, Winnie, Mille lacs. Layout was great.

I miss the boat but don’t miss the old two stroke smoking merc.

I have no direct experience with either of those exact models but the Angler setup always looks so perfect for fishing IMO, no matter the year.
